Locked Out Of 2009 Prius

Am I the only one to have had a total failure of the locking system?

Had driven the car all morning, popped into the shops and when I returned to the car the blipper would not unlock the car, nor would grasping the door handle nor would touching the boot handle. Thought it might be the Battery in the blipper, so called the wife to come out with the spare set blipper - alas no better. After 1 hour 35 of trying - suddenly it worked and let me in, though I had to touch the start button to fire up the car. Since then, it randomly does, then does not work. Two new batteries in the blippers, still no improvement - can anyone tell me what I am missing?

Does your blipper not have the hidden key for events such as this ?

Yes it does - but the local garage says if I open the car whilst it is locked with the blipper, I will set the alarm off. So, until I can find out what the problem is, the hidden key is how I lock n unlock the car. (Feels like going backward in time though).

May have had as similar experience to this with a Subaru about 10 years ago. Drove to an industrial estate, parked up and locked car. When I returned to car blip would not unlock car or start it, yes, I too used emergency key and alarms went off but car would still not start. Thought my problems would be solved when i went to the Subaru dealer whose premises were only some 30 metres from where I'd parked. New Battery fitted but still blip would not work. dealer was mistified.

In end entered car again with key, pushed car 5 metres down road, tried blip again everything worked ok. Found out there was a British Gas site nearby with a Microwave comms tower which actually blocked my blip signal. At time spoke to Subaru UK about this, they were aware of problem from mobile telephone towers as well, but I also found out some Ford models were susceptable also.

It happened again to me in differnt location, but on that occassion, I just moved car a few metres and all was well.

So were you parked near some form of comms centre/aerial?

An appointment with the dealer? Something is not right in the system, the car is under warranty. Just take it in and get it sorted thumbsup.gif

I had a similar problem with my Gen 2 a couple of years ago.

kept trying to open the car and it eventually worked.

At exactly the same time, about five other cars in the carpark alarms went off.

Spooky, but never happened again

Same thing happened to my Avensis a few years ago. It turned out to be a radio mast signal. Other people in the vicinity had the same problem.

LOL - Yeah! It has taken a week to get the appointment arranged - but you are right, it looks like the only way forward.

Responding to other comments above, this now happens in locations where it worked perfectly well only a few weeks back, so i don't think it is as a result of external influences, but thanks for the comments.
