Auris T180 Clutch Judder?

I've recently bought a used Auris T180, July 2007 with 41,000miles.

Now I'm not sure if this is just how the 2.2 diesel Auris is, or if it's clutch judder?

I find when pulling off in the Auris it's very 'petrol' like in that if I do not give a minimum of 1500 rpm or let the clutch out really really slowly it'll judder the whole car, like a small petrol engined supermini wanting to stall because of lack of revs when pulling off.

Is this normal? It happens in any condition, morning, night, cold, warm, raining, sunny etc!

Do you have a 2.2 diesel? Do you have to rev to about 1500rpm for a smooth take off in first gear?

Any comments appreciated!

Just a little background, I've come from a 2004 1.9 diesel Megane, I could rev to about 1100rpm and it would pull off smoothly. In comparison, my Auris feels very weedy and incapable low down when pulling away, I feel at times like it's a petrol engine under the hood...

My SR180 will pull away with no extra revs if i want it to, and i don't have to get the revs that high to pull out of junctions smoothly.

I granny shift my t180 all the time, and when I don't it will pull away with very little revs.

I have a feeling that your car is on a second clutch and it wasn't done very well. If its the original clutch then it might need some attention.

Thanks for the replies,

you know what I think it's just the fact that I'm not used to the car still.. (even though I've been driving it everyday for over a month...)

I say this because e.g if I'm parking I still only use the clutch bite (no gas) to move around like I did in my Megane and it's fine. I think it's just the way the ECU is programmed in this car maybe? I notice that when giving a little gas to move off the revs naturally drop once the clutch gets to bite, which means I should be pressing more gas! My megane, which I drove for nearly 7 years/131,000miles was not like this... either way I'll get used to it!

Check the glove box and any storage space for stuff which may rattle. I have the same issue, but turns out it was my sisters **** Bon Jovi CDs in the glovebox. Solution, in the bin :D

I'm guessing the clutch was abused in its previous life, just had a new clutch installed under warranty and all is perfect now!
