Best YARIS model?

Hi all!

I am on the verge to buy a brand new Yaris however I am a bit confused about the choice of the model. I have choices from TR, TSpirit and SR...

Can anyone enlighten me as to which model would be the best of all? by best I mean reliability, performance, no known issues, mpg etc

Thanks a lot guys :)

The points you raise apply to all the models equally. The differences between them are simply down to the levels of trim and standard equipment. Changing the model of trim (TR, SR, T Spirit) makes no difference to the mechanicals - they all use the same engine & gearbox combinations....

You can get the Yaris with a 1.0 3-cylinder petrol engine, a 1.33 4-cylinder petrol engine and a 1.4 4-cylinder turbo diesel.

The 1.0 has least power but does good MPG. The 1.33 is a nice petrol engine. The diesel has similar performance to the 1.33 petrol, has much better economy but costs more to buy.

There are no real issues with any of the engines - its just down to what you want out of a car and what you want to use it for.

In terms of trim, there is a T2 with basic trim, the TR is a good standard spec. The SR and T Spirit provide extras such as bigger alloy wheels, rear spoiler, climate control, sat nav, bluetooth, etc.

The only thing to think about really carefully on the Yaris is the semi-automatic MMT gearbox.

There's nothing particularly unreliable with the Yaris auto box - but there is more to go wrong and it is an acquired taste. If you're thinking about the auto box, make sure you have a good test drive to be sure. Its basicaly a manual gearbox with a computer operating the gearchange and clutch. Some people don't like the feeling when it changes gear for you, as its not as smooth as a real auto box.

There have been a few people with issues with the MMT on this forum. I don't think its particularly unreliable, its just more complicated with more to go wrong and an ordinary manual gearbox.

Oh - and be aware that there's a brand new Yaris coming out in 2012, so this is the last year of the current model shape. If you buy new this year, you will have a "superceded" model by next year.

That's why you can get some really good deals on the current model at present.

If you're happy with the deals being offered, no reason not to buy a current model as they're really good cars - but just wanted to make sure that you were aware that it was about to be replaced next year with a new version....

T-Spirit D4D FTW! :D :yahoo:

(I may be biased as that's what I have  Well, the Mk1 version anyway, *with SUNROOF!* :P)

I think they are dropping the diesel version completely in the Mk3 (:crybaby:) but it will be replaced by the HSD version...!
