Had A Crunch

topic says enough really :(

sat at red lights waiting for them to change when a mondeo comes racing up behind me, slams his brakes on and crunches into the back of me. :crybaby:

Pretty much all of the rear bumper has been tucked underneath the car... petrol tank has taken a bit of a crushing, exhaust sounds wheezy... probably been dislodged due to impact somewhere.

But that's about all the damage I can see, just have to wait and see what insurance says now :(

Sam,

I feel for you. This happenned to me once. Make sure that the car is properly inspected so that you don't lose out.

Also pay a visit to your doctor ASAP to make sure that you don't suffer any medical problems down the line due to this (even if it was a low speed shunt). If you don't see your doctor now, then the insurance might try to wangle out of any payments for treatment or lost work time :(

well, more concenred about the chasis being bent now...

on closer inspection the boot too is properly knackered, can't open it because the lock has slipped out, and because it's pressed up hard against the lights.

also the CD player and housing has popped out on impact :o I don't know where I stand with this, my cd player wasn't declared on insurance (who's is?)

also running some non toyota 15" wheels that aren't declared, anyone with any clues on where I stand with that considering the accident was not my fault? I do have the original wheels to put back on if I wish... looking for advice on this please.

seems like everything has been pushed up from impact... it's a mess now i'm actually looking at it :(

insurance is set to pick it up tomorrow though so i better get sorted sharpish

ok, bit of a situation now... not wanting to get my pants pulled down over this insurance claim i'm asking for help/advice.

I was stationary at red lights when I was shunted, HOWEVER: I do have 15" alloy wheels that are not declared on the insurance, as well as a cd headunit....

I suppose what i'm asking is; will they kick up a fuss over the wheels/cd player? I'm aware that the insurance industry is a failing market and they will do what they have to do to avoid paying out.

As I see it though, the wheels/cd player had nothing to do with the accident in the slightest... I was stationary when I got crunched. I'm sure they would like to see it another way though I suppose?

The wheels aren't much of a problem as I can swap those around with the originals in next to no time... the CD player however is tricker because I had to cut the opening wide enough to allow it to fit (as it seems a couple of the guys on here have to do?)

If I remove the CD player I can't put the black cash tray back in because it doesn't fit, i'll be left with a gaping hole...

Looking forward to reading your advice,

Sam

I would change the wheels, why stress when 5minutes can solve that and change them back, as for CD player, say nothing maybe and hope for the best???

unlucky mate like everone else says it aint much hastle changing the wheels over so id do that!

i wudnt have thought the cd player would be much of an issue in a shunt i could see where it would come into play if u had ur window smashed as they were after that!!

Ford Focus RS???

what about the focus ST230??

CB

You don't need to justify anything except the damages. If you're not claiming against damaged wheels or any damages to the CD player then you shouldn't need to worry. The reason that they want that sort of thing declared is in case you try to scam them saying that your wheel was damaged and it cost a billion quid, or that a top of the range stereo was nicked.

There is no law stopping you upgrading your stereo, or swapping your wheels (as long as they're legal). I'd say just leave everything as it is.

swap the wheels cuz they will be picky wit dat, leave the CD player and say u didnt realise u had 2 declare audio stuff,

and as far as fords go yeah theres nice ones but evry company makes a few nice cars (ok maybe not LADA but the top gear lotus one was nice,!) but id rather have my 1.0l yaris than a 1.3 fiesta anyday,

You have a very valid point yannick and that was the line of thinking i had as well.... however it's irrelevant now as i've changed the wheels around and suffered the loss of a chunk of flesh from my finger :(

f :censor: g day just keeps getting worse :(:(

it's dark now so i'll tend to the 'popped' cd housing tomorrow and leave the cd player in, there's no way they can say my claim is null through that, it's NOTHING to do with the accident!

mind you nor were the wheels, but... better safe than sorry i suppose... cheers guys

You'll be fine Yarisboy....with or without the non standard wheels.

Would be different if say you had the wheels pinched...you couldn't claim for them, but then you'd just say you had the standards pinched.

How's the neck? go to town on it matey...your now feeling paranoid..that everytime someone comes up behind you at the lights it's realy scary and makes you nervous...will be good for a couple of grand. ( no wonder preiums are so high these days :-) ).

I'd also inform the police, and have him charged for driving without due care and attention. They will be obliged to check out the mondeo's Road worthness...ie could have virtually bald tires etc? They may not want to know...as no one was hurt, but push for the driving without due care etc.

Car ride seems to have taken quite a wollop, if the boot floor is rippled, then it's never really going to be right again. If that was the front end it would be written off, as the crumple zones will have been weakend....not as important at the back.....but these days cars can be written off quite easily.

Vipes.

You should be ok. Upgrades to expensive stereos and alloy wheels should be declared cos it makes your car more desirable to thieves, not more of a target for Mondeo's! It's only performance mods you've got to worry about with crashes - even if you're stationary at the time .

Hope it goes well.

cheers guys,

it's just nice to hear resassurance/oppinions of others... it's always more dififcult when u try to make a rational/balanced decission with only your own input!

my neck is a little sore, as you'd expect! but... I have very strong opinions (suprise suprise  ) about claiming for injury when you're not hurt, idiots at sixth form used to do it regularly... walking round with neck braces on like avid merrion when there's nothing wrong with them just to scab the system of a grand or two <_<

I think if you're genuinely hurt in an accident then fair play of course you should claim! but... as i'm not i'm just going to do the decent thing and lives by my morales

Regards to the boot floor it is a little crumpled... I couldn't open the boot to get to the jack... so I had to go in from the back seats and it was a struggle I can tell you! The more I think about it... the more feasible it is that it could be a write off.... back of the car is virtually useless... the actual boot lid is bent, bottom bumper destroyed, even the rear quarter panels have taken some damage, as well as the petrol tank and exhaust....

I keep telling myself the guy couldn't have been doing more than 20mph.... (it was a 30mph zone).... but the cd player and casing/housing actually POPPED out of place, the rear light/shock covers in the boot have pinged off, it was actually quite a whack! I wouldn't be suprised if it was closer to 25mph maybe even 30mph with the damage that's been done....

oh dear :(

Good work - it's sickening when people are always getting thousands from faking an injury. In my first car, I skidded off the road (road was covered in tree sap and it was pouring down - it was like an ice rink) but I was coming to a turn at the end of the road so it was at about 5mph and I only scuffed my alloy wheel. One of my 'mates' immediately started talking about putting claims in for whiplash, time of work, trauma, etc. scumbag! He didn't go through with it - he would have ended up with worse than whiplash if he did!

:cacker: Go and see a doctor!

You need not claim, but if complications arise over the next few weeks/months, you don't have a leg to stand on if you haven't seen a doctor straight away.

If everything turns out OK health wise, then you don't mention it to the insurance... simple really.

I agree sam, My brother was in a smash and he had a really bad neck s few days after, he didnt want to claim either but he was in that much pain when he went to the doctor.

He didnt directly claim for whiplash, but the lad who was driving told his company a passenger was hurt, and they took it from there. he then went for a proper independant medical assesment at the hospital, again they said he has bad whiplash.

Point being, whiplash and neck problems are serious whatever. GET YOURSELF CHECKED (or else)
