Rav4 - Internal Computer Configuration System

Hi All

Not sure if anyone will know this but just thought I would chance my arm asking.

I have a 2006 Rav4 SOL (European model), which has the built in touch-screen LCD for accessing the car's radio, gps etc...

I remember an mechanic telling me this a while ago (can't get in touch with him anymore), but apparently by performing a sequence of actions there is a way to access the internal configuration for the system. Basically I am looking for a way to boost the built in microphone's input signal a bit more and it is done through this configuration utility...can anyone advise what it is?

Vaguely recall having to engage the Battery without turning the car on and then use some combination of the hazard lights and the main lights to activate it...could be completely wrong though.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! :D

All the best

Regards

enig

Think schm may know. If not, have you tried running up a steep hill 8 times, then resting? After that yer voice output should be more voluminous

Or about 10 pints of Irelands finest? That normally fixes everything.

SCHM posted the advice under a topic about the volume of mobile phone communications about 18 months ago. Probably worth a search on "mobile phones" or trawling through his posts.

There's two ways of getting in, one involving switching on and off the side lights and the other tapping the screen top and bottom, with the display option screen selected (assuming your unit is something like B9004, but it is a fairly common procedure for many Toyota sat navs).

Then look around the menus to find the phone vol one. To be honest, I'm not sure it makes much difference volume-wise. More detailed info here:

The map disk also contains the software for nav part of the unit. When first powered up, (i.e. on Battery connection), it will boot from it.

Anything is possible given enough time, but this is nothing like a standard PC. It's an embedded micro-controller thing. To do anything like what you want, you'd almost have to start writing software from scratch and then you'd need to understand the hardware architecture of the unit.

The mapping data is, as I understand it in an open format (kiwi consortium).

One or two people have attempted to reverse engineer some of it, but, to cut a long story short, it isn't that easy and probably requires a fair bit of effort/time invested.
