Any Ideas?

I have a 91 Tercel..... .. just bought her a few weeks ago........runs great for the most part.. but..

its been stalling on occasion....but only when its started up after sitting for more than 8 or so hours......i can avoid having it stall by letting it warm up for 15 minutes or so.......but if not it will stall out.........seems like its being choked out......and alot of times when this seems about to happen i can just put it in park and rev the engine a bit and then its fine......

also- it does this odd thing of sputtering/stalling for a spit second when im driving and i hit a bump or pothole in the road......but only if im accelerating while going over the bump.......

it does this everyday in all the same spots on the road........on the highway off ramps, bumps in highway, on traintracks........... it has never completely stalled out on these occasions though....the engine just seems to go dead for that split second on impact of the road bump and the check engine light pops on for the second too......

does that make sense??

anyone have any ideas at all???

can't comment on the stalling of itself but I think you have a loose electrical feed to the distributor (both may be linked)

Years ago I had an old VW which seemed to cut out on bumpy roads. It turned out to be a loose feed to the ignition coil. The stalling could be due to the same problem?

Check/disconnect/re-connect all the cabling around your low-tension wiring shake a few cables whilst the car is running with an assistant inside to monitor the dash lights. Shouldn't take too long to narrow the problem down.

I would do all of the above and check to insure all the wiring to the fuel pump is also good.

How long has it been since the fuel filter has been changed.

Sounds like the cold start injector may be failing, may explain the long warm up.

???
