Aux Plug In

Hi All,

I have a 2006 T180, and have owned an ipod dock (the one you connect to via a blank FM station) all this time, however I need to know has anyone ever had an aux plug fitted by Mr T, the ones that are now standard on all their current models.

I am not at all bothered about the steering audio controls being connected as I have managed well with out for so long and tend to listen to full albums anyway instead of individual tracks.

I have identified the ideal place in front of the gear stick next to the heated seat buttons as there are two blank places for buttons/switches

An aux plug in then connected to the current head unit on the cd changer input should work yes?

Anybody done this if so how much, and I'm really fussy about it being nice and neat

My FM dock is starting to get interference and I would achieve better volume with a direct plug in, and as i have said I am not bothered about audio controls on the steering wheel

Cheers

I just bought a new JVC unit with DAB radio and it came with an ipod feed - for one of my 1994 RAVs.

schm I think is one of the knowledgeable chaps on this forum and he might look in when he's finished trying to tape Casualty.

What's Casualty? ;). Tape? Yeah I remember that ;).

I'm not sure that Mr T does a straight "aux" box, just the ipod adapter I think.

I'm sure you've grasped it, but on your vintage of vehicle, you can't just plug a lead straight into the CD changer socket, you'll need an adapter that emulates/looks like a CD changer as far as the head unit is concerned, but provides you with an aux socket.

There are a number of adapter boxes available, (google grom, connects2, dice,.........). From experience, an early connects2 aux adapater doesn't work with your headunit. It's a software problem in their adapter. I hope they have sorted it by now.

Don't know whether Toyota would fit a third party adapter for you, guess you would have to ask. Alternatively, I guess a good independent audio specialist would fix it up neatly for you. Or perhaps, mount the box behind the dash and jump an extension lead to a socket mounted in the spare switch positions, as you suggest.

Cost? Dunno, £50ish maybe doing it yourself to £hundreds for fitted?

Hi,

is there a circuit available to build, for my B9004, to connect a USB adaptor.

THX.

My DICE iPod interface has an auxiliary connector socket. Being a bit obsessive about security ( as well as suffering from "Senior Moments" ) I'm mounting my socket inside the central storage unit. Maplin sell a suitable socket. The DICE cost £99 and was very easy to fit.

There's nothing complete I know of yet. I'm sure you've found this site:

http://www.softservice.com.pl/corolla/avc/avclan.php

Where you can pick up bits and pieces on how to do it.

One potential problem with the B9004, is, as I've said in other posts, that I don't know how to display text on a B9004. I could/can get it to play stuff from an external adapter though. Text is probably reasonably essential for a USB adapter. I've worked how to do text and been successful for a B9017. It's not clear whether the B9004 supports CD text for an external CD changer. Indeed, the Toyota IPOD adapter, when used with the B9004, doesn't display text, as I understand it, although I've never played with one.

For the B9004, it will display CD text and MP3 tags for the internal CD player. One last possibility would be to try to emulate "MP3 mode" for an external CD changer, if it supports it. That might allow text. Again, I've not been able to reverse engineer that. One forum member has offered to lend me a dice adapter (which appears to do "mp3 mode") in the past, so I can analyse the communication between it and the head unit.

It a sore point really. I'm supposed to be designing an adapter, but, to be honest, after being involved with automotive electronics development all day at work, very often I just don't have the enthusiasm for it at home. Most of the design is "in my head" though, so maybe in a few months I'll have something you can just build.
