approx 8.5 seconds 0-60 due to the extra weight of the gen 5 when compared to the 147 BHP & 8.1 secs for the gen 4.

The gen 6 with its 173 BHP does about 7.9 secs

C to G reg = gen 4 (pop-up lights)

G to L reg = gen 5 (pop-up lights)

L reg + (without pop-ups ) = gen 6

I think the newer shape gen 7 came in approx T or V reg

This is a reply from an older discussion on the difference between a gen 5 & gen 6 :bookworm:

Virtually all the differences between the ST182/3/4 and the ST202 are in the cylinder head design.

The later model has no TVIS, better shaped exhaust and intake ports, longer duration cams, better flowing manifolds, bigger injectors and fatter fuel rail, better head cooling etc etc. There is no upgrade path as such, other than to drop in a complete engine from a later car.

gen7's came on a V reg (not T), as they came out around October-December 1999 (T regs ended 31st August 1999).
