Bumper Protector

I think mine is part of the optional protection pack. I'll have a look how it fits tomorrow when it's light. You can see it in this photo but I'll try to get some better ones tomorrow.

As promised...

Looks like it screws on along the top of the bumper near the boot lip and I guess it is 3M taped to secure it.

Hi guys, the bumper on the T180 has become a bit scratched with the dogs jumping in and out. I was looking at one of these.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TOYOTA-RAV-4-2008-T180-XT-R-REAR-GUARD-PROTECTOR-/250649247825?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a5bdc0051

Has anybody fitted one? How does it look?

Cheers

Hi, looks like a great idea.should of bought 1 a long time ago but never got around to it.think it too late now with all the dog claw marks on it.but interested to know how you get on.

Hi,fitted one myself last year.Dead easy. The 4 heads that you can see actually just push in.They are already fitted to your bumper.Remove them by lifting the centre of the head,& they will release.Use a flat head screw driver to lift. The Bumper Guard will have the holes positioned to put the retainers back into the same holes.Bottom of the guard has the 3M tape already to stick down.Just peel off protective strips.Job done.

I recently spoke to Kingo re this part, and if Benxt5's was fitted as an official Toyota Protection Part, it is now discontinued and superseded by the clear film one favoured by the likes of Anchorman and others.

The alternatives on eBay look fine...?

I have this item fitted to my XT5 2007 Model. I tried a stainless steel plate but it was to small. This pretty much covers the whole area. It is matt black plastic quite easy to fit and does the job well. David Isom

Yep, Toyota only do a clear film now.

Does anyone have pics of how the film looks?

Just to be pedantic, I'm fairly certain that Anchs sourced that one from the US (Anch's - correct me if I'm wrong).

The UK sourced ones are (or at least were 12 months ago) just clear, so no Toyota logo.

I'd do you a picture of the one on mine, but, well, hey, they just look clear! (with a slight fold over onto the vertical part of the bumper).

It can drive you a little mad putting it on - It goes on wet and you wonder about some of the bubbles under it, but they do dry out after a few days.

Not pedantic - just accurate

Apart from buying the Toyota ready made version, another solution would be to go for something like THIS, make your own template and use the off-cuts to do door edges, headlights etc.

Application is exactly the same as the pre-cut version from Toyota

These 2 types of bumper protector that I'm familiar with used to be fairly common on eBay.

This is the first bumper protector I installed on my 2008 RAV4. I got it off Ebay--the seller was a Toyota dealer in Tampa, Florida. At the time this style (part no. 00016-42065) was only available in the Southeast. I liked the way it wrapped over the edge of the bumper:

After a minor rear end scrape, my body shop replaced the rear bumper cover. They sourced a new protector from the local dealer and they sent the type that what was previously only available in Canada. It fits well and looks good, but doesn't wrap over the edge:

Purchased mine from a company off the net, called Climair.Along with a wind deflector, for the sunroof. The bumper protector fits the full horizontal length of the bumper, stops just before the upward curve. So is longer than the one on Benxt5 vehicle.Hope this helps.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have today received delivery of my bumper guard as referenced in the 1st post.

It looks straight forward to fit as there are 4 holes in the guard to fit the existing clips through along with the 3M tape to hold it in place.

The only question I have is -

Given that there is already a small piece of plastic that says RAV4 on it already embedded in to the bumper, I am assuming that this bumper guard simply sits over the top of it?

It's on the car now, as the piece that says RAV4 on it sits flush in the rear bumper I have just popped the rivets out and put the bumper guard straight over the top and fixed it in place.

Looks good and will stop my hounds from wrecking the bumper as they did on my X-Trail

You could try softening the adhesive tape through GENTLE application of heat from a hairdryer and prising up with an old credit card or similar - start at one end and work your way along. Alternatively, seek advice from a local bodyshop

My bumper guard arrived today and is now fitted. Must say, it is far better than i was expecting. Its molded perfectly to sit over the existing Rav4 protector and looks as if it could easily be a genuine Toyota accessory.

Very happy and very impressed. Well worth the money - highly recommended.

Will post a picture once i can work out how!? This is the only forum which i cant for some reason? Wont let me insert images? :help:
