Don't you just keep your finger on the button for about 5 seconds pushed in. My model is newer than yours, but i would imagine they work the same.

I've tried for like 20 seconds, but no result.

What yo need to do is,

With the ignition off,

hold the reset button down,

then switch ignition on,

then release the reset botton and the trip should reset.

Press and hold the button for 2 seconds and it should reset to 0.0. Just done it 2days ago after filling up. Do it with the engine running.

I do this at every fill up after noting the distance and the amount of fuel replaced.

My last reading was 382 miles, fill up 42 litres(just over 9 gallons). From 12.5 year old 1.8 Avensis hatchback.

Give it a go and practice - Once it is zero you will have to drive to do it again.
