Hi and welcome to the forum.

I have never had any experience with the model you mention altho maybe its known by a different name in the UK - the 3sge and the 3sgte are both good engines.

The diesel? No idea - sorry.

Remove a 1G for a diesel!!!????

You can fit a 1G-GTE (pretty much direct swap) it's the twin turbo version.

You could also fit a 7M, 1JZ, 2JZ (all inline 6 turbo na or twin turbo varients found in supras) or a 1UZ-FE (4.0 V8)

There was never a 2.5 1G. You are thinking of the 1JZ.

I have never seen anyone swapping 3S into Mark II, although their are good engines no doubt. But due to weight-power ratio, most owner around here would go for 1JZ-GTE instead.

I think diesel engine is better option, don't try to cut the fuel ever.
