1984 Pickup Parking Brake Problem

Recommended Posts

Posted

Over time my parking brake began becoming less and less efficient. Now it does not work at all. I tried shortening the cable. The only result is the parking brake lever only comes out half way now.

It appears that the levers on each drum brake in the rear that attach to the cable are stuck. They don't seem to budge and are near the end of the metal bars that keep them in line. I can't tell if they are in, out or in the middle.

Lubrication doesn't seem to cut it.

Thanks for your help.

How much is left of the brake pads???

once they get too low the e-brake can not be adjusted tight enough to work.

If you find the pads are gone and replace them, you will have to adjust your cable back out before you can put the drums back on.
