We bought ours as a spacious replacement for my wives SUV. So primarily for the nearly 400 miles/week school run/curricular activities. As it is hilly and my wife just doesn't pay attention to the position of the pedal she gets a constant 54mpg during the winter months. Which is a huge improvement from 16mpg we had before in her SUV. I've given up trying to educate her to drive a bit more economical i.e. not hard throttle and hard braking all the time as I value my own live.

Anyway the times I take it a usual journey, is across the valley/country side, onto single lane main road, then onto dual carriage way a road, then M25, M3, and more town driving. I easily get 70+ mpg on a journey like that and don't drive like I have miss daisy in the back. I tend to drive indicated 80mph where possible on the motorway and likewise anywhere else right on the limit. Just got to get a pulse/glide driving style and anticipate. The funny thing is that I now apply that in my Audi 3.0 petrol quattro automatic and I get a whopping 34mpg in that as well.

Not sure how to include images in this forum but will have a go;

The 73 mpg trip was a journey from Harrogate centre to York Station at speeds upto 65 mph at times.

The 81 mpg trip was from Leeds to Harrogate centre and would have been 85 mpg if I hadn't got bored and overtaken someone who was going slow!

Both these trips were when the car was warm and I had the a/c and climate control switched on.

If I can get mpg's like this with my lead foot, then there's no excuse for anyone else not to :)

Just seen the video on the PHV version... should I wait? Decisions, decisions...

I note that in an earlier post you say you need the car in August - if its not a company car - perhaps you could enquire with Toyota as to when the Prius plug in is due to come out. If its say within 6 months or so of August - could you not purchase a cheap runabout for a few months.

You need to hide your fuelly average !!!

I don't do that many runs out of town and the average of 49 mpg, despite including the odd run, is a pretty good indicator of my town use - it's where I spend 98% of my time.

I hear what you're saying though, but I did keep logs of some early mpg's on fuelly where I got 45 mpg but with an average speed for the day of 11 or 12 mph!

Anyhow, you're aint much better at 55 mpg :!Removed!:

My excuse is that includes 2 winters and only one summer (as does yours). Now the warmer weather is here, the only way is up :thumbsup:
