Auto Gearbox / Clutch Problem

I've got a gearbox problem on my RAV4 auto (Y reg), which had started after a long drive to Switzerland. It feels like something slips inside the gearbox, the car barely accelerates on the first gear, and would not go up a steep hill. It sometimes changes gear with a jolt. I took it to Toyota garage, and they confirmed that ECU is ok, so it's definitely the gearbox/clutch mechanical issue, however they only offer replacement for £3500, which is as much as the car itself is worth.

Could anyone advice me of any good gearbox specialist who could possibly repair it? I live in South London, but I am prepared to travel long distance if necessary...

Hi and welcome to the forum.

There must be some Jap car specialists in or around London. Even look /search internet for automatic transmission specialists.

However, I think it would be cheaper, if the box does need changed, just to replace it with one from a scrapped car. Gearbox strip and rebuild is an expensive time-consuming hobby.
