T180 When Cold - Drop Clutch = Rpm Drop / 2Nd Gear Difficult

Recommended Posts

Hi - please can someone give me an idea of whether the symptoms are signs of trouble ahead?

We have a 2006 T180 Corolla Verso / 66k.

When it's cold, on first start up, after lifting my foot off the clutch, there's a drop of maybe up to 100rpm at the biting point. Foot off the clutch all is OK.

The car is fine when it's warm, only when it's cold does this happen. What could cause a sticky clutch and is it a sign that something is failing?

Also, when cold, 2nd gear can be a real pig to engage. After a few minutes, again no problem.

Appreciate anyone who's already experienced this letting me know what these could be signs of...

Thanks in advance,

Dave

Hi, I dont know if this will help. But I had awful problems with getting into 2nd gear on my Avensis T-180 when cold and it would always crunch untill it got warmed up. So I changed the gearbox oil to Silkolene Pro SRG full ester oil (Straight 75 grade) and it was amazing the difference. No problems with gear changing when cold and no more crunching on the tripple syncro.

good advice here

problems when cold is mostly due to oil where it gets thick especially in cold weather, within a few miles once the engine heat comes into the gearbox the oil thins out and does its job
