Pulling my hair out now.... Bought a low mileage Avensis that was slow to start but had been standing for 6 weeks.

I changed the Battery, changed the starter motor, and today the glow plugs. But it's still the same???

There's no warning lights on, it drives superb, no smoke to speak of. But even after a long run and egine warm it's still slow to start.

Can't afford MR T to diagnose - so any help gratefully excepted. :help:

Hi mate, this may sound daft but have you tried starting it without your foot on the accellerator, mine starts fine that way . It maybe a good idea to change the fuel filter then a least you can isolate things like that without spending lots of cash. When the engine starts from cold do the revs pickup to around 1200 rpm then when fully warmed up it should fall to around 800 rpm.

Pete.

When mine was slow starting it turned out the starter motor was on its way out. Killed 2 batteries in the process but fortunately Toyota replaced them under warranty. I can't imagine Toyoyta would charge a fortune to diagnose the fault, probably no more 30 mins - and you can instruct them to spend no more than 30 mins on it if you like. A professional diagnosis can save a lot of cash in the long run. there are some nightmare tales on this site of self diagnosis and many parts being changed without fixing the problem.

I agree with your advice and comments, hopefully it was a new starter motor fitted by RonnieRoo22.

Thanks for the advice - yes the starter was brand new with 2 year warranty or 24k.

It will always start, but sometime works first turn of the key from cold. Then slow to start when warm. the next day it will swap the other way. No rime or reason to it.

the problem i had was that the car would always start when cold, it never had a problem but as soon as the engine got hot it would turn over but not start. I would have to wait for the engine to cool a bit before I could start it.i was told to replace the starting motor and after I did this the car started properly..you say that you have all ready replaced the starting motor so maybe this is not your problem.
