Air Mas Meter For Rav4 2000 Model

Hello All

Can anyone point me in the driection of where to get an aftermarket Toyota air mass meter ?

We have the ECU light on , it came on recently , and the diagnostics man we know said its a lambda ? sensor fault , but that he couldnt do it himself , so off we went to the dealership , £300 lighter and new sensor installed , bank 1 , at the back , whatever that means

Anyway , on the way back from the dealer the light comes on again, we take it back and they say now it needs a new air mass meter , and kindly offered to do it for £250 , i said no , we`ll have to think about it

A friend who services our cars (mines a old V astra) checked for leaking air , and tighetend a pipe , then sprayed it with the stuff that checks if theres any leaks , and there were none , then we get the diagnostics man out again who turns the light off , has no faults showing on the computer , alas , the light comes on again , a day later , he says it may be a `lean` fault , and that the air mass meter may still need replacing , even though the error isnt showing any more....

Following on to that , i have been told nevere to trust after market air mass meters , and to try and obtain a totota second hand one , but to be honest im lost looking for one , has anyone got any helpful advice for me on where to get one ?!

To be honest , times are tough and we were thinking of selling the RAV but with the light on , we have no chance !

Thanks in advance

Dan

Morning....

you should be able to buy one from one of the car breakers - which you can access online via portals like Parts Gateway.

Parts king on this forum can give you a price for a new one normally at a discount and arrange delivery.

My experience with these cars has been to seek out a garage specialising in Jap car tuning...cos they normally know what they are doing !!

The item in question doesn't come up that often on this forum (try doing a search), which suggests they are normally fairly reliable. I assume its a 3SFE engine 1998cc - a fairly common engine.

Hi Bothwell Buyer

Thanks for taking the time to reply , i appreciate it

The dealership doesnt inspire confidence to get the job done , mainly because when our friend was tightening up the air pipe etc , he found a toyota branded spanner loose in the engine ! , but i see what you are saying about finding a Jap sepcialist , its just didnt want to keep throwing money at the problem , even a second had air mass meter may not in the end , keep the light off i guess!

the car ,just to elIminate any doubts on stuff is A Toyota Rav4 Gx Vvti (Estate)X reg 2.0 Litre (1998 as you say)

Anyway ,shall i PM Parts King and ask him for some help ?

Thanks again

Dan
