Power Steering Light Came On

Hi Folks,

I have by 2.0ltr petrol vvti Rav 4 serviced on Wednesday, 60K service, not carried out by the dealer I might add. Today the Power Steering light came on for around 1-2 mins then went off. It has not been on since & I have made sevral short journeys today. Should I take it in to the dealer, or could it be something that happened due to the service.

I appreciate that this is difficult to answer on a forum, but I wondered if anyone else has had a similar experience.

I would watch it for a while. The assistance comes from an electric motor which will power down (reduce the assistance) if it becomes hot. Check the tyre pressures as they will increase the load if they are low (should be 2.2 bar) and monitor it for a while. Had you been doing a lot of shunting before it came on?
