Hi all

Had my fuel pipe replaced by mr t today under the recent recall. They also gave the car a visual inspection and washed it.

They advised pad replacement all round and said that the front discs had lips and the rear were in poor condition I'd like to replace them myself if possible as money's tight at the mo. Can anyone suggest where I can get cheap replacement parts and a workshop manual.

Any advice would gratefully received.

Cheers al

You may find that they have plenty of life left in them yet. Get a second opinion from a friend/friendly mechanic.

Discs are readily available from a whole range of suppliers ranging from Halfords (cheap with a trade card) to Euro car parts etc. The 'Genuine Toyota' pads I bought a while back were manufactured by Bosch. I think I paid £70 for the pads but bet you can get them cheaper direct from a Bosch outlet/stockist. Avoid the really cheap stuff cos it doesn't last. You may even be pleasantly surprised by how competitive your Toyota dealer is - but I bet PartsKing (I think thats right) on this forum will do you a fab deal on genuine parts.

Fitting is dead easy if you are any good with the spanners and there's loads of photos etc if you search the forum. They are pretty important to your safety though so finding someone who knows what they are doing to help you would be a good thing. You will need proper axle stands if you're going to do this job. The jack supplied with the car is not enough. Don't wish to patronise you, just better safe than sorry.

Good luck!

Hi all

I'm beginning to think now that my Toyota dealer quoted me just under £500 for the pads and discs being changed all round as I stupidly thought I might try Kwik fit....they quoted me £488 for the job lot. Makes the Toyota quote seem a lot better.

I'd love to change them myself but there seems to be several types/sizes etc and I'm worried that the ones I get will be wrong. I might wait for my local garage to get back to me with their quote.

I've also noticed reading threads on here that it could pay to replace all 4 o2 sensors....NGK seeming to be the best deal...it seems like a nightmare out there.

Question is do I replace the one being suggested by the error code or all at once.

Cheers

Al

PM Parts-king with car details & reg. no. & he'll give you a good price on genuine Toyota replacement parts.

Hi, waiting for mine rto be done, just wondering, as they replace fule pipes, there must be a certian amount of fuel going wasted. Do they repay you for this? They should do !!!

My friendly Mr T. manager (we are on first name terms as he is a very helpfull guy) said that my rear pads need to go, quoted GBP100 for the job. had a look at home and there was at least 4-5 mm left. will leave it for a bit longer i think.

regards

rick

Hi there

They didn't refund anything except to clean the car inside and out when they'd replaced the fuel pipe. They also did a visual inspection and kindly pointed out that my discs were knackered and there was not much meat on the pads. Very polite and nice as pie.

Ha ha, they said mine needed rear pads too when it came back from the recall. Maybe they're trying to make some money back!

I checked it out with a free check at kwik fit. They came back with all discs and pads need replacing.

Kwik Fit aren't always the most reliable of sources when there's the chance of money being made :)

Yeah I know but it was free and allowed me to see just how thick the discs were and how badly worn they were too. i wasn't going to give them my custom, they quoted more than Toyota, but at least it gave me an indication of how bad things were rather than 'needs replacing' and 'discs in poor condition'
