Are Wider Mudflaps Available For The 4.2?

Hi,

The amount of loose gravel and salt being thrown up over here is making mincemeat of the lower halves of my car doors; it seems the standard Toyota mudflaps just aren't up to the task.

I've had a search around online but so far haven't located a wider model. Has anyone seen any? Possibly rally style? It's really function over style so I don't want to pay through the nose for a fancy brand, but any suggestions welcomed.

Thanks.

What about adapting the existing ones by fixing some rubber mat to them? Local Hero is the mudflap modification expert........

Davrav as usual beat me to suggestion one, and furramore he is the man who will have the link to the sticky-on film to limit the stonechips....personally I would do both.

Big Kev

I cannot see Toyota do'ing anything but the std mudflaps, Yes i did manage to widen one of my rears on my 4.3 not perfect but looks OK + does the job.. However there are quite a few universal ones about which may solve your problem, some of the 4x4 accessory companies sell large universal ones, it may be an idea to make a template of your frt + rear wheel arches + find some that you can cut to shape, Not a rccomendation but heres a LINK to some cannon ones which they claim fit all cars, hope this helps or gives you some Ideas  Stew

Happy to oblige: STICKY-ON FILM LINK

This is one of the best but there are other brands such as 3M that are similar, if not the same. Just search for 'Paint Protection Film' and you should be able to find sheets/rolls of a suitable size.

I would think that if it was just the lower sections of the doors you needed to do, a DIY approach would be OK but fitting over more complex forms such as bumpers and bonnets is an art.

Yeah, the 3M "bike tape" or "Blade tape" is available in 100mm widths and is quite good (but expensive).

When I had a 4.2, I got hold of some cheap heavy duty-ish flaps and after a bit of shaping/cutting mounted them behind the existing ones so that the whole arrangement was longer and slightly wider. Never really had any "grounding" type problems with them.

Rear shown here, but did front as well.

Office duty carpet tiles are strong and very cheap secondhand. can be cut to shape and replaced when worn... we have hundreds secondhand in blue or dark red, or grey. Recycling them is a nightmare as they are almost indestructible!

Interesting responses, thank you all very much. I'd never heard of this tape/film before, and also like the idea of just attaching another mat as an extension.

Will have a scout around the DIY shops here for a suitable donor (hardly any shops really, so won't take long!).
