WHY IS IT THAT NO TOYOTA DEALER IN UK SEEMS TO KNOW ABOUT FIFTH GEAR REPAIR, PHONED ALL OVER COUNTRY TODAY, EVERYONE SAID NEED TO TAKE GEARBOX OUT, SHOWED THEM TOPIC AND INSTRUCTIONS PRINTED OFF FORUM, STILL SAY CAN'T DO IT, IS IT BECAUSE I'M FEMALE AND THEY THINK WE NOW NOTHING, CAN ANYONE POINT BE IN RIGHT DIRECTION

Tbh I didn't know there was one. I'd write to Toyota and tell them what you've tried to do with the other dealers. Don't be fobbed off if you know what your talking about. Have you contacted Toyota World in Cardiff and Newport?

Its fairly common and caused by resting the hand on the gearstick which then puts stess = wear on the 5th gear bits

Its a cheap fix which I think can be done in-situ. Do a search for it in this forum and there is also instructions on Rav4world.

Its not Toyotas fault - but a wear and tear thing caused by 'mis-use'.

I'd use a non-dealer garage which will be much cheaper.
