Yaris T-Spirit And Ipods

I am another victim. I have just bought a new Yaris T-Spirit with a Tom Tom TNS410 and a USB socket which I was told would work with my ipod. "Just plug it in and you can play your ipod through the sat nav unit" - I was told by the dealer. Of course it doesn't work. "Device is unsupported". The dealer doesn't seem to know about the much mentioned £150 cable. I had an ipod integration kit installed into my old Yaris - I don't want the expense again. I now have a new car but a worse ipod experience. I will have to try the AUX input with a phono lead but that gives less control and no Battery charging (if it works). Not a good experience - feel like I've been conned - though the salesman genuinely didn't appear to know there was a problem. But he should have known.

Hi,

Just to let you know that my dealer has agreed to pay the cost of the wire that is needed to connect my iPod to the TomTom unit. I find it bizarre how they didn't know about this before they started selling the car.

Yes mine is doing the same. I am getting the wire which goes into the glove box (which is exactly what I had in my old car). So I will be able to play playlists - but not use the tom tom screen to choose tracks. It's not proper full connectivity. It seems crazy that Toyota install a USB connector which can take an Ipod and a tom tom unit which advertises that it can be used to play an Ipod - and the two aren't compatible.

Blame Apple; They keep changing the *&£%^£% connector and protocols so you keep having to buy new kit.

They really know how to milk the crap they sell!

Well it seems nothing has changed in 2.5 years - just bought a 2011 Yaris Spirit and cannot connect my iPod to the TomTom device. And the garage refuses to believe the problem is fixable!

Any ideas on what to do next?
