Is it a case again of cutting into the wires and attaching ?

Yes. You can conect at the light itsself, that's the easiest.

Connect the red wire of the delay to the red wire of the light,

the black wire connects to the white wire w/ black stripe.

Try "Scotchlock" connectors

NOOOOOOOOOOO!

Stay Away from ScotchLoks or any other kind of Insulation Displacement Connectors!

They might be very handy, but they allmost allways result in trouble after a while

due to corrosion and/or bad placement, causing cut wires or short circuits.

Strip the wires, twist the new wire around the stripped bit, solder, then insulate.

The electriscal connection is WAY better AND the connection is mechanically sound too.

I have to agree with Jan, one of the best purchases I ever made was a 12v mini soldering iron that runs off the Battery

Haha, I have one of those too. It's only 8W, so it's JUST hot enough to solder on a wire in a car,

but that wire can NOT be "live", as the tip of my Iron is grounded. Found that out the hard way :P

If I need to solder heavier stuff in a car I use an invertor with a 230V~/30W iron.

At home I've also got a 50W soldering station, an SMD "pincer"-iron (2x25W), a soldering

gun (150W) for large sheets (EMI-shielding) and a couple of burners with open flame...

Soldering has another pro too: connections are MUCH smaller!
