Alarm

The next thing I want to purchase for my T-Spirit is an alarm, which works in conjunction with my key fob (if possible)

My question is - can I just get one like the ones in the Argos catalogue (sorry, only example I could think of!) and fit it myself or should I go to Toyota and get them to fit one of theirs - basically which would be the best for my car?

I'm a bit short on funds and dont really need one, but would like one to maybe cut my insurance premium and reduce the risk of it ever being stolen.

I dont want cheap and nasty, but I cant afford top notch, so which would be best?

:help:

Thanks!

Hi Demonic angel

Yes i know what you mean about expensive of car alarms. I had a toad alarm fitted to my old car and it was the best £220 i had spent. It was a cat1 approval and it locked all doors with the remote and windows and immobilised the engine and had anti hi jack devise as well which locked the door after 10 seconds once the engine started  And it had a blue scanner on the dash board which looked like the knight rider light but blue :D

Try this link http://www.direct-car-alarms.co.uk/toad.htm Have a read up on them

I dont think you can make the alarm work with the key fob, the alarm will have its own fob, you will not beable to use the alram fob to set the double lock on

jerry have you got total closure?

This was on my old Nissan almera. And they where able to fit the alarm so that it double locked. Toad alarm specialist come to your work place or home and fit the alarm. Not bad for £220 ;)

wen my bro bought his T- Sport he paid £200 extra ontop and had a toad cat1 fitted (an upgrade to the standard alarm) and it works with the standard key fob...all they do is program it in! or u can av a new key fob if u want.

iv just had a Toad ai606 cat1 alarm fitted to my car for £250. i also considered the clifford concept 300, but went for the toad in the end :)

oh Ive only got a scorpion, I could get the key fob to arm the alarm but I'll need a couple of relays and mess with the manual key entry so I left it

Cheers for all responses...

Whats the difference between thatcham assessed and non-thatcham? Basically what is "thatcham"?

Jerry - the link you posted was great, will Toyota do a big range of alarms like that or do they have just a standard one they use?

Also thinking of getting a reverse parking sensor and I read Toyota can fit them quite cheaply.... being a woman and not being able to reverse park I thought it also might be a good expenditure - has anyone ever had that fitted?

When i had my Starlett before my T Sport <G>

I brought aVixen Alarm from Maplin for about 25 Quid, Very easy to fit, no problems with it Until me car took a prang and then after that something which peugeot did when they repaired it ( Insurance Repair hence using peugeot ) stopped both the boot and bonnet swithces working off same circuit ... Then i traded me car in anyway a year later lol

there are 2 thatcham, cat1 and cat2, one is only an alarm, the other is alarm + imobilizer, with thatcham alarm your insurance will be lower only if it was fitted from a pro

I was thinking about alarms earlier too funnily enough ..

I'll have to save up some ££'s first of all though but I'd really like one fitted too.

*goes to have a look at the above links*

I think Thatcham alarms are a higher spec than other alarms and also a bit better quality but I'm not 100% sure tbh.

Angel, Why do you want an alarm? I read recently that one insurer had 300 Yaris’ on their books and only one had been stolen, that was due to leaving the keys in the ignition while refuelling with petrol!

The Yaris is a pretty secure car, check the details here: http://www.thatcham-sites.org/nvsr/html/ca...cars/index.html

With dead locks, engine immobiliser central locking etc, in my opinion all you need is one of these as a visual deterrent and to stop the amateurs:

you will not beable to use the alram fob to set the double lock on

why not?

teri has the standard cat alarm on the tsport, anda clifford concept 400 alarm/immob. she is bale to lock/double llock/alarm the cat1 using the toyota keyfob, and lock/alarm the clifford with the clifford keyfob.

All she makes ure is that if she wishes to use both alarms, then she locks the car with the clifford and then double locks it with the toyota keyfob, and when unlocking, unlock witht he tooyta keyfob first and the disarm the clifford with the clifford. If its done the other way the cat1 alarm complains and begins to scream.

We have found these two alarms to compliment each other nicely, the only reason she was the clifford is that the tsport is the 3rd yaris shes had, and she got the clifford on her first and thought sod the dealer having it, so we had it moved to each car.

Seeminlgy the standard tsport alarm works on motion/whatever sensors where as the clifford works on the door switches and has external motion sensors, which are less sensive since tinting the windows. She also has a steering wheel lock.

Oddly enough, the clifford concept 400 is not cat 1, but is more expensive than the 300 which is cat1. She was luck and managed to get the 400 at the price of the 100 as the local shop could not get hold of the 100's from clifford for some reason.

I've got the clifford concept 300 on mine and never had any probs. Cat 1 and has turbo timer ability incase you ever slap a turbo on it, which is most handy.

tiktok is right...

on my bros T- Sport, he had a toad Cat1 upgraded fitted to the standard alarm, and the installer set it up so it worked with the original toyota key fob (which only has 2 buttons, unlike my toad key fob which has 4!) coz my bro didnt want another keyfob!

with my bros car, u just push the lock button, the car locks, the indicaters flash and the car is armed with the standard alarm.

to lock the car with the toad alarm on aswell u just lock it normally and then push the lock button again (ie u push the lock button twice as apposed to once like normal), and the indicaters flash again and the toad makes a churp noise (indicating the toad is armed!)

to unlock u simply push the unlock button wich disarms both alarms (the toad will rearm its self if the ignition is not turned on within 60 secs.)
