Avensis Vvt System Assistance Required

Hey all,

need some assistance with my grandfathers avensis please.

it was having some issues with it, so he took it to a mechanic who told him that the valve required changing in one or two of the cylinders. the mechanic carried out this work of changing the valve(s).

now it is running rough, stalling, not starting etc. i was only made aware of the problems he was experiencing today. spoke to a friend who connected it up to laptop and it came out with the VVT system malfunction bank 1. i know ive not given much info, but i just found out myself today about the issues, i will tomorrow hopefully get all the info about the car, it's former symptoms, current symptoms, and what the mechanic who carried out the work has to say. so any input is much appreciated here.

what valves??inlet and exhaust valves??

give it back to the mechanic ant tell him to sort his mess out!!
