Cigarett And Aux Sockets

Hi all.

A month ago, I bought a 56 plate Avensis 2.0 vvt-i T4 with just 35,000 miles on the clock from the local Toyota Dealership. Today, I've come to plug in my phone to charge and nothing happened. I then plugged it into the rear socket and still no power.

I checked the Fuse behind the Glove Box but it looks fine to me. Is there anything else I can try? Seems strange that if it isn't the fuse, why both sockets would be dead? Where is the best place I can check for current with my multimeter?

Would this problem be covered by the 1-year Guarantee that cam with thr car?

Thanks in advance.

All new cars do not power that socket unless you are on Acc or car is on. IF it is still not giving you DC when you car is on, yes you should contact your dealer and it should be covered under your warranty.

Hi Sam29

Thanks for the reply. I have tried with both the engine running and also with just the key at acc. Either way, there's no power to either Cigarette Lighter or rear 12v socket.

If it's likely to be covered by the guarantee then I'll contact my dealer.

Thanks

HI Pete

Cheers for that - yep that's the fuse I checked. Although it looks intact, do you reckon there's a possibility it could still be defective? It's obviously been replaced at some point before as it's different looking to the others.

Also I assume that this fuse also covers the rear 12v socket too? Inside the Cigarette Lighter looks rusted (or dirty) but surely this wouldn't stop the rear one working too?

Thanks

Ben

If you bought if from the dealer a month ago then take it back as you've parted with a fair chunk of cash. I'd be inclined to take your charger to so you can show them that it doesn't work and get it done under warranty. Why mess about when they can solve it? Also take you charger to check before driving it away. Have you tried everything else might save you several trips back. Make the most of the warranty it'll soon run out so look for potential problems now

Definitely a trip back to the dealer. They want you to be happy with the car because then you might recommend them to others. They would much rather you go back to them and give them a chance to put it right than for you to try to fix it yourself and complain to your mates about it.
