Hi all first post here apart from the welcome one seen some really good advice. I've read a lot on here about the T150 and T180 Avensis. How do I tell which one I have? I've got a TR D4D 2.2 5 door. reason I'm interested is the fuel consumption. Running about locally it can vary from 33mpg to 48mpg this does include some motorway driving. I'm off to Heathrow in April so will that drive give me a better idea of my overall fuel consumption?

There's Lovely, nedofwales.....you have the 150hp (148 more accurately methinks), and the dead giveaway is the T4 Badge at the back, which would have read T180 if it was, if you follow me....

Then again, maybe a REAL ned of Wales has actually removed yer Badge...?

Big Kev  , and welcome....

Welcome mate.

The T-180 also has a Badge on both front wings that says D-CAT.

Cheers mistermena and Big Kev looks like I've got the T150 then no D-CAT Badge on the side. So next point running around mpg atm shows about 41.5. Is this normal for urban driving is it high or low. It's an 08 reg done approx 20K. Tyre pressures set at 32psi I have seen on here that 35psi has been used

That sounds good to me around town. My T-180 does about 35mpg (Less in winter) I found that using a K&N air filter gave me about another 1-2mpg. Also using BG244 in the fuel tank is well worth while along with Millers Diesel clean on every fill up. My tire pressure is about the same as yours...

About to do another oil and filter change tomorrow using Mobil 1 ESP (5w-30) and clean the K&N Air Filter to. Oh the joys of motoring

I've noticed mine is about 33 to 34 mpg back and for to work, it's only about 5 miles away not far enough for the engine to warm up really. Will try those tips and see how it goes think the long run to London next month should give me a better idea

A blast down to London will do it the World of good. I take my one from Cardiff to Doncaster every now and again to give it a good long run.

My 06 2.2 D4D manual says 35psi for the tyres - that should make a good difference to your fuel consumption. got 27500 miles out of the last set of tyres too! Round town mpg figures aren't so hot but on the old Bristol - Dover - Bristol trip (delightful!) I get between 48 - 57 mpg at about 75mph on the clock.

No way should it be 50psi! Take a look again at what your owners handbook says. Its higher when you've got load to carry. But 50 psi is very high! You'll find that you will have wear on the middle part of the tyre if its to high. And the outer edges will show wear if they are to low...

the only time ive seen 50 psi marked on a tyre is with a space saver spare tyre.

has the been some sort of confusion here.

the car must give a very harsh ride with this high pressure.more so when a tyre blows.

I'm running my T180 Tourer at 41psi all the time, which is only the high speed 5 person stated rate, to improve rolling resistance and therefore fuel economy.

Also remember to only check the tyre pressure when thy are cold. Driving the car for more than a mile will give a higher (false) reading! And reducing any pressure could be fatal. Unless you know that the tyres are in excess of the manufactures recomendations. This is just the Driving Instructor comong out of me¬! I usually charge £25 per hour for this stuff! Lol..

cheap at half the price.

as to pressures can you trust a garage tyre gauge is accuret.

take my footpump to the norwich county hall and have it checked out by what was called weights and measures people every couple of years.

Now I'm at a loss!!! Because my T-180 has the same Badge as yours at the back of the car! Was yours an import? It should have the D-CAT on the wings like mine if it is the T-180?

Cheers mate...

I have a "Proper" Tyre gauge that the pro's use for my 2 cars. Now thats a good idea to have the Council check out the accuracy of the tyre gauge. Wish we had that in lovely sunny Cardiff! Sitting in a beer garden and watching folks is just the best on a day off the road

Just had another thought about the Badge on the back of your car. Did you buy the car from new? If not then it could be that the owner befor you stuck it on the car! But then you would have thought that they would have put the Toyota D-CAT ones on the 2 front wings to make it look like a proper T-180.

Food for thought

Whilst you're improving the "rolling resistance", you must surely be wearing the tyre centre tread prematurely?

It may not show up immediately, but running at more than plus 15% of the recommended pressure would concern me.

They have obviously calculated it for 5 people for a reason.....5 people of my weight would soon return yer 41psi tyres to looking and performing like 35psi tyres. Let's be careful out there....

Big Kev

I think I'd contact your Toyota main dealer and give them the reg number of your car so they could bring up the history. That way you can be sure what you have

Evening all some interesting comments here since I last logged in. 50psi I'd be waiting for that to go bang I'm afraid. Latest mpg figures today 41mpg got 241 miles out of 35 quids worth of diesel @ 1.36 per litre. Oh yes nearly forgot that's with tyres set at 35psi
