Update on my MPG did a run today Swansea to Bridgend about 15 or 16 miles clocking 54.5mpg @ a steady 68 to 70 mph on cruise control seems a bit more like it. Hopefully the Heathrow run on the 19th of this month should give an even better return as stated earlier.

Have a look at the tyre legend on the inside of the drivers door B post

that gives the correct tyre pressures for different passenger numbers on board and also different tyre sizes

btw what size are the tyres on your avensis my 2006 TSpirit has 16 inch wheels

215/55/16 me thinks (are the 16s the standard size)

I know some avensis have 17inch tyres

Hi The Cav

Tyres on mine are 215/50R17's running them at 35psi as looking at the handbook recommendation on the diesel engines

another way to tell what you have would be that afaik all T180s came standard with full leather interior & 5 spoke wheels (same as the T-spirit wheels).

The TR interior is fabric & standard TR wheel was 8-spoke although the 5-spoke was an option (or an aftermarket fit).

My 06 2.2 D4D manual says 35psi for the tyres - that should make a good difference to your fuel consumption. got 27500 miles out of the last set of tyres too! Round town mpg figures aren't so hot but on the old Bristol - Dover - Bristol trip (delightful!) I get between 48 - 57 mpg at about 75mph on the clock.

only 35psi? mine say 50! so i set them to 50psi

thats right isnt it? putting in what the actual tyres say?

No way should it be 50psi! Take a look again at what your owners handbook says. Its higher when you've got load to carry. But 50 psi is very high! You'll find that you will have wear on the middle part of the tyre if its to high. And the outer edges will show wear if they are to low...

Years ago i saw a brand new Primera with a big sticker warning that the tyres had being pumped up to 50 psi for transport purposes and to reduce them to normal pressure before delivery (to customer i assume). 50 psi is way too high for a normal car, vans and lorries are probably a lot different though.
