Clutch Change And Now Front End Rumble

Hi All,

As a couple of you may have already read recently, I had problems with a burnt out clutch on my wifes 2001 2.0 vvti Rav

I eventually got a local garage with a decent reputation to do the job for a good price as I didnt fancy taking it on myself on the garage floor

I picked the car up last week only to find oil pi**ing out of the drivers side drive shaft seal. Straight back in and fixed a couple of days later after a new seal.

We have now had the car back for just under a week, and less than 150 miles. tonight I took it down to the shops and there is a fairly loud wheel bearing type rumble from the front drivers side. Its different from a wheel bearing in that it is loud in a straight line and gets quieter when weighted up (turning left) most bad bearings I have experienced generally get quieter when the weight is off them (right turn for a drivers right side) I have jacked the car up quickly tonight and cant feel any play in the bearing and cant feel any obvious play in the cv joints/drive shafts or any fresh oil. The only other thing that has been done at the same time was putting 10-15 pounds in the front right tyre as it looks like it now has a slow puncture. It does seem a real coincidence that this has now happened so soon after clutch being done and assembly/dissasembly of parts that would have went with it

Any advice on the noise if it isnt a bearing? Strange how it quietens when loaded

Thanks again for any advice

Gavin

Quick update. I can never let things lie when they are bothering me, so just been out and put the spare on the front drivers side. No difference to the noise, so cant be tyre related. The noise is there whether under drive or out of gear and is speed related. This should point to it being non gearbox related? I presume the noise could still be from the transfer box though?

Sorry, not having much luck with PC's now as well as cars. PC decided to post my last comment 3 times. Tried to remove, but edit section would only let me remove the text from the post, not delete it altogether
