The Deed Is Done!

Hi all....

Well the search was over quick and the deed has been done.

As of the 30th of this month I shall no longer be a Landcruiser driver, but will have traded my LC in for a 09 Blue Avensis Tourer T4 with the light leather interior, further to this it has the full screen satnav and one of those Moon Roof doobries ;-) with just over 18k on the clock and all that for just under 14K.(I think thats not bad for a mainstream dealership)

Other than the slight smell of Pooch (dog) ,which I hope the chaps at my local MR T valet service will be able to eradicate, there is nowt really wrong with it.

Just hope it does not become to clostrophobic with 5 of us in it....

regards

Rob

Sounds like a right nice ride. So you'll be spending some time on the Avensis forum!

Just hope you dont get the problems with the handbrake that I've heard about.

Hi,

Ive been here before... about 5ish years ago I think... used to have an Avensis T3x just about when our 1st kid arrived... we moved on to the Rav 4.3 and then on to the Landcruiser... back to the Avensis fold now.

What was the problem with the handbreak? On the other hand not too bothered as these come with 5 year warranty now so still got about 3 years of "worry free" driving... I hope...

Still gutted that the LC is going though, absolutely loved that car, but as needs must we all have to make a sacrifice to help him at no 10 pay his debt :ffs:

So it has become to expensive to run for us now, specially after my insurance doubled  :ffs: ... either way, Im sure it will do the job just fine, with enough techno gizmo to keep me entertained for a few minutes.... ;)

Regards

I've read that the newer T27 has problems with the electonic handbrake regulator messing up. But as you've got the warranty from Mr T you'll be okay as I understand that its a very expensive thing to go wrong. I had one on my Audi A6 3.2, but I never had a problem with it

You will miss the LC..... :crybaby: :crybaby:

Dont I know it... however I wont miss the running costs.... ;)

we'll see what happens in the next 4 years, by then the newer style LC would have come down in price and they are more economical than the older style LC....

Just kinda wondering what the drive up to Arran is going to be like on the fuel consumption on the Avensis... I used to get up to Glasgow and have a 1/4 of a tank left on the LC (about 410 miles)... gues I'll have to fill up along the way with the Avensis as its only got a 55ltr tank in comparison to the 87ltr one on the LC...

I would have thought 410 on a tank would be ok if your not going for the land speed record. I've just had to fill mine up and the average over the tank was 43 mpg (We did Legoland Windsor over the weekend, sitting at or about the speed limit on all roads (when we weren't stuck in traffic) so the looooong run on the motorway helped). The top "gear" (ratio, whatever they are called in a CVT) is huge on a flat fast road, pretty much the same as my audi a6 2.5 tdi used to be in 6th gear (nearly 35 mph per 1k RPM on instruments) .

Hi,

not sure what you mean by "The top "gear" (ratio, whatever they are called in a CVT) is huge on a flat fast road, pretty much the same as my audi a6 2.5 tdi used to be in 6th gear (nearly 35 mph per 1k RPM on instruments)"

I'm not very mechanically minded, from what I know, you start a car, put it in gear and off you go, the heavier you drop your right foot the more it costs in fuel... and thats about it...

Could you explain what you mean with the Top gear ratio dubry?

Cheers

Rob

Sorry for the late reply, only just got 5 mins to log on. I guess you have your car by now? When on a flat piece of road and are not accelerating, the engine / gearbox will make it there mission to be bring the RPM down as low as possible. I dont fully understand how, but when you drive it, you will see the revs drop as the ECU's do their stuff and, eventually, the RPM will fall no further whilst maintaining your speed. This is what I refer to as "top gear". It will pay you to experiment with driving it bacause there is a knack to getting the best mpg out of them, you have to concentrate on backing off the gas to ecourage it to get into the highest gear it can. If you dont, the ECU's think that you are "pushing on" and holds onto the gear your in for longer. Its hard to explain, but ours is a different car when my wife drives it to when I do (no sexist comment intended).

Oddly, there are supposedly 7 preset "gears" that you can select using manual mode and the stick, but the top of these does not equate to the "top gear" when in full auto mode, it is slightly lower. So when cruising in "top gear" in Auto mode, if you move the shift to manual mode, "7" comes up on the display to say what gear your in, but the revs jump up slightly?

Anyway, enjoy!!!
