Tyres

I have to buy 2 new tyres the front of my Yaris.

It has been suggested that because of the mileage I do ( less than 4k/year ) that I should consider 'Barum' tyres.

Apparently they are made by 'Continental'. The 'Barum Brillantis 2' seems to be equal in most respects to the similar Continental, but quite a bit cheaper.

At present I have Yokomahas on my vehicle. I know that several years ago they were considered Budget/mid-priced tyres but not any more.

Has anyone on this forum ever used or know much about Barum tyres?

All advice/comments would be appreciated.

How much were you looking to spend roughly?

I just had 4 Continental EcoContact3's put on (£225 for 4 fitted and balanced; Price was surprisingly competitive considering it was from my Toyota dealer!)

Quite happy with them now, esp. since I bumped the pressures up in them (They were feeling a bit crap, but I discovered they were at 28psi  )

You must have got a very special deal, the cheapest Cont's I can find in south devon is £179 for 2 tyres fully fitted.

I have been quoted £131 for 2 Barums.

I am also thinging of Michelins, been quoted £149 for the pair, fully fitted.

What tyre size?

Mine uses 175/65R14 and there are two types of EcoContact3's available for that; Type H which is rated for 130mph and costs £70-80 and Type T which is rated for 113mph and costs £50-60.

It sounds like you might be getting quotes for the type H (or you've got larger rims than mine... which for some reason are more expensive despite having less rubber!)

Tyre size is 185/60R15 alloy wheels.

Perhaps that is why they are more expensive.

Yarg, that sucks :(

Can't believe that going up an inch in diameter adds so much! Why?!
