Non Starter

Hi all

This is my first post as a Toyota owner - although the car is actually my wife's.

We purchased an XT3 on a 56 plate with 34k miles from a dealer (not Toyota) based in Stoke. Everything was OK for the first 2 weeks, but we went out today and the car would not start. When we bought the car we were told it had service history by the salesman but when the car was delivered there was no handbook and we still have not received one. What we were left with however was copies of invoices and works carried out to prove work had been doen (??!!). On one of the sheets it said about the starter motor being replaced under warranty.

The problem is I am useless around a car and although we're hoping to book it in to a garage tomorrow who have always looked after us I just wondered if anyone has any thoughts as to what the problem is? I'm guessing at a flat Battery but haven't been able to try and jump start it today to check. The EML light is on but it doesn't even sound like it's trying to turn over, possibly alternator?

I know I prob seem very 'un-manly' but any thoughts or previous experiences would be really helpful

Cheers in advance

Hello and Welcome, kcbabi,

1. Petrol or Diesel XT3?

2. Was the starter motor turning the engine over when you FIRST went out today, or did you just get a "clicking" and no spinning of engine...?

3. Has it been sitting for a while unstarted ?

These are your "starter for ten" questions....more knowledgeable folks will be along. "Unmanly" is nonsense...some folks are into cars, some not....you were man enough to ask for help, and it will be here shortly.

Good Luck,

Big Kev.

Hi Kev

Thanks for the reply

Its a diesel. My wife was out in the car on Friday and its been driven every day since we got it. My wife works part time but does roughly 250 miles a week so it gets good running not just stop start etc. It tried once to turn this morning but other than that just clicking.

Starting to think as I get older should have mis-spent more of my youth around cars!!

Thanks again for taking the time

Have you checked the Battery connections are tight? Worth a try.

Nae Bother, G.....on a '56 plate, it's possibly on the original Battery, which has decided to chuck it now after a severe winter, perhaps sitting at a dealer waiting for your wife to adopt it.

If your mechanic does diagnose Battery kaputedness, don't dismiss your local Toyota dealer for a replacement....I paid more at Halfraud's.

All sorted now

Battery changed at a cost of £0 as dealer honoured the charge which I wasn't expecting!

Thanks again

G

So what you are really saying, G, is the Battery had no charge, so there was no charge for the no charge, then there was no charge for the charged when you charged into the dealer in charge of your new charge.....?

Good result.

Big Kev
