1.0 To 1.3 Or 1.5 Swap?

Hi! I've owned my yaris for just over a year now and my little 1.0 has given up at just over 90,000 miles. Mind, i've never liked it, its slow and struggles at low rpm, and as ive carried out quite a few mod's to her, i was wondering if anyone has swapped either of the engines before.

Any Help Welcome.

Thanks! :)

Not sure if anyone's done it, but you'd have to swap ther ECU and maybe other electronics too.

They are the same basic engines, so they'd fit in the car ok, but its just what else you would need to swap to make them work...

I know you can't even put a French 1.0 in to replace a Jap 1.0 because the engine's just won't start because of incompatible electronics. Not sure of the root cause but I'm not sure its even possible to fix, because everyone on this forum who's had that issue seems to have given up...

Do you know if the 1.5 engine loom and 1.0 dash loom fit straight together? and if the engine mounts are the same? If they are all i would need is the engine, gearbox loom and ecu... Right?

Hmm.. so you are going to use a 1.5 engine in a 1.0 and don't even mention the brakes?

If you can't think further than the engine, then frankly and rather bluntly you are not competent to do the job.

PS: Also think: clutch, driveshafts, suspension, cooling system, exhaust, rear brakes, master cylinder, wheels and tyres.

Not to mention gearbox and final drive ratios...

I've not mentioned the ECU, the fuel pump, the alternator, the speedo, the fuel tank....:-)

And then give up and replace 1.0 with 1.0 or buy a 1.5..

The member in question last visited the Club 12 years ago, so is unlikely to reply.

Another zombie thread ... but not a record. There was a 14 year one a couple of days ago.

I guess people just assume that all internet search results are both relevant and recent.

They aren't ...

A lot of forums frown on members asking the same questions over and over again and prefer members to search the forum for similar problems rather than posting a new thread, what does it matter if the thread is old its still relevant.

the award goes to the 20 year old thread dug up a few weeks ago

As for Maz's question

go and buy the car you want, fair less headaches, there are some major differences between the 1.0 and 1.3 brakes, suspension and exhaust are just the tip of the iceberg

if you really want to do an engine swap, go for the 1.5 or 1.8, the hardest job is the electrical and immobilizer, It's nowhere near plug and play whatever you think it will cost, double or triple it
