Maybe I was a rabbit in a previous life, but I have to confess I detest these LED daytime running lights. They are nothing but a distraction to other drivers, not a "see and be seen" aid at all...more of a "look at me...I can't afford an Audi with these built in as standard..."

Big Kev

I'm on your bus Kev........Can't stand the ruddy things, if I actually owned a car with DRL I would be cutting them out and flogging them to some chav on the bay of fleas!!!

Isn't it more that they're an EU requirement?

http://europa.eu/rapid/pressReleasesAction.do?reference=IP/08/1394&format=HTML&aged=1&language=EN&guiLanguage=en

Article linked includes:

from 7 February 2011 onwards all new types of passenger cars and small delivery vans will have to be equipped with DRL. Trucks and buses will follow 18 months later, i.e. August 2012
When using LED (Light Emitting Diode) technology for dedicated DRL, the energy consumption is reduced to only 10%.

On new cars yes, but not retrospectivly, a waste of time if you ask me but hey ho, just my opinion

All though i,m a fan of LED,s I don,t like that set-up, with respect it looks a bit amateurish. If you want to see a quality set on a Rav4 granted it is the newer model than the one on the photo, go on the German Rav4 website and look in the owners photo,s.

It's very obviously a personal thing.

Personally I think they look a bit "not quite in keeping with this lovely vehicle" (my wife made me take "tacky" out), but each to his own.

I have seen some LED's that look good on certain cars and I have seen cars that look like they are trying to look good and their parents didn't have the heart to tell them they looked ridiculous.

I like the Front of the T180 Rav4 as it is. Just put some Night Breaker or equivalent bulbs in to replace the standard originals.

For the Price of LED's, Fluffy Dice and a go faster stripe, you could get it chipped.......

Yup folks I'm with you. MAKES IT LOOK CHAVTASTIC. Good car, why would anyone want to make it look like a boy racer's Citroen Saxo? Is there an inverse connection between retrofitting those things and the length of the driver's p****? Just cos you can, doesn't mean you have to.

Harsh? Yeah, but you asked our opinions and that is mine. I'm off to find a good looking Dartmoor Ewe for Davrav.

I want to say I like them just to add a little balance to the thread, but...

I don't!

I'm not against LED DRLs but think having them on 2 edges looks a bit too tarty, like dame Edna's specs.

Maybe just along the bottom edge would be better and a little more subtle, or having larger spaces between each one so it is not so much.

Fair play for having a go and don't let all the grumpy old men get you down too much! ;)

 Hi

Well done for trying out something new with the L.E.D. lights on the Rav, unfortunately people, being people are entitled to there opinion and not all will like what you have done with the lights personally speaking I like them and they don't look amateurish at all.

Could you add a thread showing how you fitted them ?

Nevertheless, I imagine 'cutting them out' would probably be an MOT fail when the time comes around!

When they first came out on the Audis and BMWs looking like fairy lights I really did hate these DRLs, but I find the simpler straight or round ones quite appealing. I drive with sidelights on all the time anyway, and never understood why Volvo removed the feature from their cars. As for the Rav here, I think they've chosen a good position for them, but it really depends on the finish whether it's chavy or not, and that's hard to see in the photos.

Legally DRL,s at night have to either switch off completely, or go onto a reduced voltage as not to interfere with the normal dipped and high beam headlights. If you notice Merc,s or Audi,s they go on reduced voltage at night driving, the ones I fitted go off completely when the side-lights and headlights come on.

Ch***e Ba*****d Clare!!!!

I had an Audi follow me in bad weather a few months ago, the DRL's were on and off like a ....... well you get the picture

It was the auto headlight coming on / off with the low light in a rain storm, kept swithcing the DRL's off

For me its not so much the looks but I find them a distraction. They are just too bright and for some reason your eyes are drawn to them. I'm not looking forward to having them all over the place and no doubt there will be kids running round without having them dim at night time :censor:
