Chip For Xt-R

Catching up on posts this morning and there seem to be a lot mentioning the Kingo Chip for T-180. Is a similar mod available for the 'standard' diesel as in XT-R. If so what is the benefit, how easy to fit. Impact on insurance - as a modification I assume it will put premium up.

Cheers

Chris

Hi Chris,

Search out some of Local Hero's postings re chip for your engine variant....he has been known to lax wyrical thereof, and when he gets in from his usual easy Friday shift, he may honour us all with his presence.

It's easy to fit Chris, you should inform your insurance of any modification, however most of the high street insurers will want an extra premuim, I think Local hero's was about £50 ish if I remember correctly :g: Come on Stew, remind me!

Kingo

Please don't think i am being unfriendly, but I have written lots of replies + comments about my chipped Rav + TBH feel like i am just repeating myself, Kingo is far better than me at answering the technical side of things and if you want to know how a chip works + what it does Google TUNIT who have a good FAQ page, Specificaly on Kingo's chip, I have had mine fitted for over 3yrs (17000m)it has been faultless, done exactly what i wanted (icreased bhp from 136 to about 165) and makes the car a lot more reponsive especially when overtaking, when you have had one a few weeks + got over racing Range Rovers etc you will find you can poodle along with your foot hardly on the throttle and you may notice a slight fuel saving, There are cheaper "chips" on eBay from £99 and Toyota ones (made by van arken) for as much as £1000. Kingos "chip" at about £400 IMO is the best value for money and it works, With regards to insurance if you go on gocompare etc and fill in all the questions you will come to a point where it will ask if cars modified, anwer yes ECU mod + a lot of companies will not quote, Kingo was right my extra premium is about £50 pa, All you P.C. members look away now because if i were doing it again I would not inform them + i cannot see how anyone would ever know, but of course I have to say that, you MUST inform your insurance of all mods hope this helps  Stew.. PS I have never removed my "chip" for servicing or MOT + it has never been a problem..
