I am planning to put new tires on my RAV4. It is 245/35 R20.

I was wondering is that a smart move? Is there any BIG risk for something to go wrong in future?

Thanks.

I am planning on fitting a set of new 20" alloys with 275/35x20 tyres.

The only issue you will have is that the ride will be a lot harder. Check you get the proper offset wheels. Maybe 30.

Have you checked that you have clearance inside the wheel arch for full lock eack way on the steering?

The back is ok and from what we have looked at, the front looks ok as well. The other issue is ensuring the wheel doesn't foul the suspension....and for me its to ensure the 6 pot brake calipers are cleared.

I had actually considered 22" but decided just to stick with 20". It takes the rollIMGP0032.jpging circumference up a little and makes about a 7% under-read on the speedo.

Do have a pic from further away? Cant really appreciate the size in that pic.

Do you live in Bothwell, South Lanarkshire incidently, or is that just your name?

I should have a few photos on photobucket... no - I used to live in Bothwell but had to move out when the drug barons started moving in... but still stayed close !!

Those wheels and tyres take a lot of punishment both on fast road work, and on the 1/4 mile sprints. The Falkens have done really well but I can't boast about the mileage they are lasting as much of the rubber has been left on the roads! The wheels are Dare Drifts and take a lot of punishment too - as can be seen by the scrapes on them now. The tyres are stretched over the rims so no mercy when touching a kerb!!
