New Yaris - Advice Needed

Howdy Folks

At the moment I've got a 2009 Toyota Auris 1.33... Been looking at the Yaris for a few reasons though

The T-Spirit has a silly amount of kit available... climate control, parking sensors, bluetooth, sat nav... free fuel for 6 months and the first 3 services included (if you buy on finance like I would!) and also a 5 year warranty

I'm just thinking, the new yaris is around the corner and obviously thats why the prices are being dropped down but... would it be a sensible buy? I like the auris, its a lovely car and very roomy (but normally its just me in there and... im thinking in less than a year it'll be out of warranty and I often worry when that happens with past experience of other cars!)

There are a lot of factors to consider in my experience. Your present car its depreciating at at a pretty alarming rate in the first 3-4 years. What will the cost to change be to buy the new car? Look on Parkers or What Car to find a value for your present motor. Then the guide price you should pay for the new one. The difference could well be 4-5k.or more.

Now the difficult bit. Is that cost really justified for a few more bits of kit. How much are the freebies worth. How much will the new car be worth in 3 years time, not forgetting that by then it will be an outdated model.

When your warranty runs out on your present car you could buy an extension, or like me take the risk and pay for the unlikely event of repairs.

Its all down to weighing up the benefits versus cost I.M.O .

I have been in the same position as you many times ,but decided to keep from new for five years or more (all being Toyota) I have not regretted it.

Sorry to be a bit negative and good luck in whichever choice you make.

I would just keep the Auris, the MK2 Yaris is really starting to show it's age now. I think the Auris is a bit more modern and nicer to be in the Yaris.

In my experience Parkers valuations are not as accurate as Glass's. A Glass's on-line valuation costs around £ 3.50, and you get a valuation you can print off and negotiate around with the dealer, should you decide to make an enquiry.

If you get a Yaris, get a diesel one; They are holding their value annoyingly well and as Toyota won't be making any more diesel Yariseses I reckon they will be in demand.

A second hand 5-door 55-plate Mk1 Yaris D4D still sells for more than most second hand 1.0L Mk2s!! :eek::crybaby:

You can get a free Glasses's Guide valuation of the part-exchange trade in of any car here...

As above, Glasses Guide is what the trade uses, so its the most accurate, as its what they refer to and its updated weekly....

I concur with the comments from passedit2. You'll lose thousands on the depreciation of a new car over its first three years - far more than you will keeping your own car for three more years and that saving would more than cover any out-of-warranty repairs.

We had our last Yaris for eight years and not a single thing failed on it in years 4-8 that would have been covered by the warranty anyway - only normal service parts.... That's one of the great attractions of buying Toyota over other makes - the long term reliability....

And don't forget, if you buy an almost obsolete model, its resale value will fall even quicker compared to the replacement model...
