Egr Rav4.2

Has anyone one here cleaned their EGR valve on their 4.2 diesel rav? if so where is it located?

Is there a thread about this?

I have typed EGR into the search bar but nothing come up?

Just had a look around the engine bay, and was looking for the item in the PDF, but I still cannot find the little bugger, is it on that side of the engine? gear box side?

The only thing that looks like that is stuck on top of the turbo? is that the EGR?

Not to worry now found a write up on it, found it now, it confused me as it has coolant pipes going into it, but this is normal on a Rav I presume.

Here you go: 4.2 EGR

Little tip - use a google search instead - it's often more effective

Cheers guys found it now, and yes I found it on the Toyota owners club forum but via google like you said DavRav? strange

Thanks igormus but I have the 2.0 D4D 4.2 rav engine, but its all good info to have.

Just out of interest, did you notice any improvements in engine running when you cleaned the EGR valve? My rav runs ok just thought I `d clean it as its most likley not been done yet in 73k miles.

Definite improvement in mpg with my 4.3 - about 4mpg within a week, and that was before the weather warmed up

My 4.2 would sometimes hesitate a little when accelerating hard. That's why I started messing around with the EGR, and it cured it!

I had already replaced faulty SCVs and the hesitation wasn't nearly as bad as it was in that case, but it was still irritating. The bad SCVs would make the car hesitate for anything from half a second to maybe 10 seconds, and it seemed to be getting worse with time. That all went away with new SCVs. A few months later I started noticing a very slight hesitation when accelerating, but not more than a split second once in a while. Anyway it's all good now!

Well took out the EGR today, and it did`nt look too bad, just a slight coating of soot, sprayed some WD40 in there and cleaned out with a rag, same on the engine block, but like I said quite clean. And the valve moved up and down quite freely.

The only problem I had is that all 3 bolts holding the solinoid in place snapped off :crybaby: these bolts must be made from soft lead or the like, anyway managed to get all 3 bits of bolt out and replaced all 3 with new ones. :yahoo:

So thats my EGR cleaned
