I've just had a call from my local garage to say they need to check the ECU as toyota have put out a recall and I have to book my car in. I normally get wind of announcements from this site but I see no sign. It's not April 1st. Is this genuine? or a marketing ploy? cheers.

Has your vehicle already been in for the recall on the Electric Power Steering (EPS),

which involves a modification to the EPS control Unit Software?

Or is this a totally different recall in addition to the EPS mod?

The Toyota guy said ecu. I said I was aware of the steering problem and I was in no hurry to have that done. He then said maybe that could be done at the same time. He was from sales and did not know the technical detail. I will call the workshop/service centre tomorrow Thanks for the reply, my post was a knee ***** reaction to the phone call.

if you google 'toyota iq ecu recall'

you may see the article on the UK recall for the steering from 4th Nov 2010,

this explains about the EPS warning light & the need to modify the Software.

Electrical Control Unit.(ECU).

worth getting done sooner rather than later IMO.

  • 3 weeks later...

The power steering recall solution wasn't updated software for all iQs. Some, like mine, had to have the entire steering column replaced and no software update, whereas others simply needed an update to the steering ECU.
