I've always found Autoglym products to be effective and reliable but I'm sure others will have alternative suggestions but, to save effort after they are clean, coat the wheels with either a good wax such as Collinite or a protective spray such as 'Supagard'- they will be a lot more resistant to build up of dirt/brake dust and way easier to keep clean

Hi Blackbear,

Just noticed on your profile that you are one of our most senior of senior members. PM me your address, and I'll make you up a wee bottle of magic spray I now use, which will either be Very Cherry non acid or with acid, depending on how dirty you report your wheels to be.

Have just used the WITH acid spray on a Passat taxi's wheels and INNER rims to great effect....200k + miles on them, so were really bowfin'. Came up 90% clean....spray on, agitate gently with soft/paint brush, rinse off.

Big Kev

I'm with you chap. I can wash the bliddy thing occasionally but bending down to scrub those wheels is a killer. It is one of life's ironies that they only get really dirty when the weather is at its worst and the roads are wet, muddy and covered in c**p.

One of those long handled brushes you scrub yer back with comes in handy. That fluffy rabbit you just ran over can be impaled on a stick to achieve the same effect but is a bit of a waste of a good pie ingredient. second thoughts: When is bob-a-job week this year?. :yahoo:

Hello Big Kev,

Thank you for your reply."Heilan" hospitality at work. I am a Glasgow man myself although from a long way back. It is warmer in Hornchurch an there's nae midgies. My rims are not too, bad, and I would be wary of using acid. Would you be kind enough to explain what "Very Cherry non acid " means. Is this your own make . I don't want to put you to the trouble of sending the wee magic spray all the way to Essex. Is it your secret mixture or can I make it up with your instructions. Thank you for your kindness Alba Go bragh!

Have a look at two posts above and Google Ninja Shine and use the TOC code as Norfolk suggests. I would buy a litre bottle and dilute about 2 parts to one water of the Non Acid Cherry Cleaner....works for me.

If you have standard alloys, ie not been painted, then the acid wheel cleaner is fine to use.

I use it on mine and it works a treat! cool.gif
