How To Polish A Rav?

ok stupid question maybe, but I drove company cars for so long I never bothered, the Rav is now 2 years old and in need of some luvving  I have read various posts about clay bars etc.

I have a 10 year+ bottle of Turtle wax (never used) will that do?

How would you go about cleaning/polishing a Rav and what products would you use, bearing in mind I don't fancy taking a week to do it?

Hiya,

I've just clean and polish my Avensis T-180 estate. This is just a quick run through of the steps I did...

This is what I used.

1. Nilfisk c.110.3 pressure washer

2. Autobrite Snow Foam lance

3. Autobrite Magifoam(Bannana smell lovely)

4. Turtle wash car wash(Using a wash glove, never a sponge) 2 buckets system

5. clay bar (Cheap Halfords own brand as it was on half price) Bilt Hamber is far better

6. Autoglym High Definition Cleanser

7. Autoglym HD Wax

The 1st thing I did was to jet wash the car and then spray it with the Snow Foam lance. Left if for about half an hour to make sure that it took most of the road dirt off. Then jet washed it again. Then I washed the car using the Turtle wash and jet washed it off again.

Dried the car off and then onto the clay bar. After seeing the amount of dirt that came off you'd never believe it was washed tbh. Next was the HD Cleanser to remove any old polish off the car. And then finally 2 coats of HD Wax. To finish off I used Aquapel on the widows, this makes the water run straight off. Its great stuff as you don't even have to use the windscreen wiper, even in heavy rain. Its similar to a product called "Rain-x" But in my view much better product from our American cousins.

The car looks really shinny now and the water just falls off her and took about 4 hours to do the whole car.

I've used lots of different types of polish and wax over the last 30+ years(Far to many to list) but I've found this HD wax to be the best I've ever used. But its like most things its what your personal preference is to a product.

Take a look at Detaling worlds web site. You'll be amazed at what those boys get upto!

Ps... I wouldn't use that bottle of Turtle wax. But thats just me. Take a look on Amazon for the HD Wax as its the cheapest place to buy it from at £25 a pot delivered. Halfords sell it for £44.99. But they did have a buy 2 and get 1 free on. And not that long ago they had a "Buy1 get 1 free" offer. But its still cheaper on Amazon...

Add car shampoo and water to a bucket. Take a sponge, wet it with said water and apply to car. Rinse off with hose. Dry off with chamois.

Leave for a few hours until properly dry and then pick up bottle of polish (a new one). Shake and apply to a polishing cloth. Wax on wax off Mr Miyagi style and hey-presto, shiny car.

Or the cheap and cheerful option of some washing up liquid, a bucket and a sponge(That gives you lovely swirls and scratchs) and a hose pipe! Lol...

But I know what I'd do :rolleyes: ;) :blink::disgust:

Dont tell me that! I've just put another coat of HD wax on the car! :crybaby:

I've got so much wax on the old girl that if we get to much sand she'll start to look like a doughnut as it sticks to the paint work! Lol...

Be careful when trying to clean those lower parts you could very easily put your backs out, purely for reference this is the correct technique  Stew
