Short Motor Warranty Work Done But Car Still Using Oil?

Hi all,

In January I had the warranty work done on my 1.8 avensis. Previously the car was using about 2 litres every 1000 miles.

I have noticed that no oil at all is being used for short trips and my normal commute of 40 miles. However on long trips (I have done two 200 mile+ runs in the last week) it does seem to still burn off some oil.

Not as bad as before, but I think after the last trip I had to add about 150ml of oil after a 220 mile drive.

Is that right? I thought it wouldnt burn a drop any more?

I use decent quality oil, either Mobil or magnatech.

Just want to know if I should be bringing this up with the dealership who did the work.

Thanks,

hello mate

- it takes some time to have piston/rings bedded to the liner/s

- valves stems sealing rings (?)

i am inclined to the first.

But you have to keep the MrT shortly informed even after after this warranty job done.

Cheers/Igor

I have done about 3k miles since the work was done, would that not be enough then?

You need to let them know ASAP so they are aware that smomething isn't right. They may have a solution, but if you don't inform them then they will assume that all is well, when you could potentialy be making things worse.

Had mine done on 27/1/11 not lost a drop of oil from engine but due to engine being out of the vehicle, the car lost oil from a oil seal its now in for the seal to be replaced, due to the seal leak i must admit though not give it a good long run out yet due to the oil loss.

I would definatly take yours back to have another oil test done on it, another 1000 mile check.
