hi every one,

i am new and i am girl/woman.

i have toyota avensis 2.0 and I love it.

I look after my car, but i am not sure about

the timing belt. I am over 100,000 mi. have changed crank shaft pully

and the 2 belts. cam belt; is it rubber or chain. do I need to change it?

if it's rubber and it's snaps, will it damage the engin?

thanks for any support.

Can you tell us which year model is it?

Why did you change crank shaft pully?

Hi Girl,

The reason why you did not get feed back, is you did not say what year your car was in your original post.

The alerts only show your first post. Even though you have since mentioned the in a later post, why don't you edit the original post and add the year.

Now to answer your queries.

The cambelt is rubber and needs to be changed every 5 or 6 years or 60,000 miles.

If the belt breaks the engine is no-interference engine, so should not damage the valves/pistons - I could stand corrected.

You mention that the crank shaft pulley was changed. That pulley is for the alternator and water pump belts, not the cambelt. The cam belt is just beyond the pulley and would need more work to change it.

I thought that the Focus was a good car than the motoring press praised highly, but Mondeo was rated highly too, Try and find a good 1998 example! I see a lot of 1998 Avensis still going strong, including mine.

You have a good car.
