What Milage Do You Get?

Hey All...

well I've had my 2ltr petrol CVT Tourer now for over a week and I'm finding the Tank Range kinda ambigeous...

Im kinda sure when I filled up it stated I'd have a range of around the 340miles... now when I look at what is left in the tank and the milage I've done it doesnt add up... It recons Ive got 119 miles left in the tank and I've done 169, I've not been flooring it and I've paid attention to the weee green eco light... have been doing trips of between 2 and 8 miles at a time through town and trips to work...

Whats the milage you tend to get out of one tank on urban driving....

Regards

Rob

I think you have answered your own question.... Trips of between 2 and 8 miles ?? They aren't trips, they are engine starts!!!

Take it to the coast, visit relatives, go for a sunday afternoon run, get areound 70 or 80 miles on the clock in one go and you should see your fuel consumption become realistic!!

Miles left indicated imo are wildly inaccurate. It depends on how much fuel you put in and how much you had left. I think I'd be more inclined to ignore the miles remaining and go by the fuel gauge!!

I agree, if you compare your mpg to the urban manufacturer claim, then you would be closer to that rather than the combined.

The mileage range is just a guide and treat it like that,

I have the 2.0D4D avensis and I have noticed the same thing. Don't worry it's the same in every car

I understand that the MPG when doing short trips usually bottoms out... just didnt think it would be this bad...

Next month we are off to Bonny Scotlands Arran, will se how our Vensis performs then ;)

Ignore the 'Range ' feature, its completely useless IMO.

If i fill my car up and check it, i usually see 390 miles, and occasionaly i might see 405 miles.

In reality i can acheive 300 miles on the first half of the tank, so i no longer refer to it as my 3 yr old would have a more accurate guess.

Fuel guage is the best tool to give you an idea of when to fill up.

Gorra 2.2D - get 55+ mpg. Came down from NW Highlands (Oban) to Ascot yesterday, 500-ish miles, easily done of a tank-ful (Tesco's cheapest), still showing range of 70 odd miles. Range I find gives a slightly low figure (I'd prefer it to err that way..) & on filling up shows 510-540 usually.

I have been known to keep to the legal speed-limit, but not allways...

I have a 2011 2.0D Tr tourer and have been getting around 500 miles with the remaing fuel left gauge showing around 40 miles. The avg consumption figure has been around 47 mpg. On filling up, I have typicaly put in around the high 40 ltrs. Last week I ran the car till the fuel light came on (12 miles left), then carried on to the next garage at which point the remaing distance was showing 4 miles. Filling up took 51 ltrs. Up until this point I had assumed the tank only held 50 ltrs, so you can imagine my suprise when I looked in the hand book and found out it holds 60.

In reality I should be able to get 600 miles from a full tank, but am worried that I may not be filling the tank to the brim. Has anyone managed this? And is there a trick to briming the tank?

  • 2 weeks later...

Well my journey back and fore to Heathrow over the last 2 weeks averaged my mileage out at 56mph. Got 57.1 on the way up and 55.3 on the way back on a fill up of £40. Didn't check tyre pressure before starting back cruise control on at about 68 to 70 mph eventually had to fill up Monday after doing 388 miles. What I really found impressive is how smooth and quiet this car is on the motorway, it feels like a more expensive luxury car rather then your average family hatchback.

Well sofar I tend to get around the 250 to 280 miles out of my tank (2.0ltr petrol cvt) eco driving with a mix of town and dual carriage way driving....

Going to see what I get at the end of the month when we head up to Arran...

regards

Rob

I agree with what has been written in that the figures that the car provides are purely a guide, they change from time to time depending on what driving you are doing up to that point.

When you get onto the motorway you will notice that you can easily average 50+mpg so I think you will be pleased then

EDIT.... I have just noticed your fuelly thing in your signature.... why is my car on display there  I know it is my car as I have the original photo as shown here ;)

Well....

thats kinda wierd...

I didnt have a pic of mine, so looked for the closest one online... and hey I found one... exactly the same as yours with the Blue exterior the beige interior - oh... one thing I've noticed in the pic though is that you dont have the panoramic sunroof :-( I do :-) the kids love it...

how long did it take you to get used to driving the vensis in a lower position and a more cramped cabin than the LC? I'm struggeling even more so as we dont seem to be getting anywhere near the milage I thought we would :-( will see at the end of the month and find out how cr@p the milage will be on a long trip up to arran from reading....

As a comparision for some time my 2.0 Avensis 1 auto. has been achieving 30mpg solid mainly on country roads and motorways (usually journeys of 50miles plus), I seldom use this car for short trips around town as it p****s through petrol and use walk/cycle/bus/train or a smaller car. Remeber the Avensis is a big heavy car with a relatively large engine which is more suited to going a long way. Mine does about 20-24mpg around town (that's about <300 miles approx.). Hope this helps. Cheers Robert
