Good evening guys,

I am new to this forum and happy that I have joined, I have a quick question, I own a 06 avensis and as you know they changed the appearance of the car from the front, I wanted to know would it be possible to change the front? And what parts would I need to change? Thanks for your help guys

Erm I am guessing you are smart enough to understand that I would like to change the front to the facelift version of the avensis, could I be any clearer?

:D

Just messing around. If you find the answer, also let me know. I was thinking of putting the new lights in my MK2 avensis.

But looking at the lamps and clips, I did not think they were going to fit in my avensis.

Worth of trying bumper and lights...keep us posted.

I doubt that it's worth what it would cost assuming that it's even possible.

new bumper, new radiator grille, new lights, painting ...

I agree.... what is the point of changing the front of a car, it might well be cheaper to simply buy a newer car

I have visited my cousin who works for toyota and he is going to assist me in this operation, he has told me all I require is bumper bonnet and lights, so we will be starting soon, and painting not an issue as a friend of mine is going to do it for me, well its not expensive if you know people and search around, for those who don't will be costly, time and effort. I would like to show you what my car looks like at the moment not complete yet but getting there. So how do I upload a pic???

To upload pictures you need a picture hosting site such as http://photobucket.com/ once you have joined the site for free each picture you upload to the hosting site will have a IMG code copy that code into any site with your post and it will appear on the said site.

Surely will love to see it.

Also check with your insurance, as they would consider it as modification ....and will increased your premium.

But still interested to see the results, as new head unit has less problems with reflectors.

will be interested to see it done but your cousin is wrong - the grille is different too.

a bumper, bonnet, grille, lights etc. is still going to cost more than it's worth imo but it's your money...

Heidfirst, if you are talking about frong grill, its all embeded in the front bumper. Mean if OP can get whole bumper units with all the drill, all he need to get would be two head light units.

But I dont know where OP stands on legality of insuranc, and in case of any incident, would they be questioning it?

Yaseena,

Your car is in the same year that the front was changed. What happens when you go to sell it! Will you state it is a pre facelift modified or don't mention the fact?

When the Avensis was facelifted in '06, was there other detailed changes like trim level, extras and features?

Did the model line up change?

Unless I did my homework to check what I am buying, like most punters I would never know.

The registration certificate may state the date it first went on the road, but that won't help most of us.

That is just my concern.

That is like me modifying my '98 model to look like a post '00 version. Thing with my car is the engine and dash are instant giveaway - leanburn v vvti as an example.

I look forward to see the changes - before during and after.

Konrad

Money to burn, I would rather put reverse sensors in or something useful

I too am in the same mind as a few have said and think the mods could be placed elsewhere, the mods you are planning will not change whats under the bonnet, and you say it will cost you little but is it really worth the hassle extra insurance i very much doubt it.

I totally agree with most of the comments above.

It seems daft spending that amount of money to make your car look 6 months newer, and then have to pay insurance hikes on the modifications. If i spotted those mods i would assume that the car was in an accident and newer parts were used to do the repairs.

Add the fact that you will have to declare these modifications to anyone who wants to buy the car in the future, and that will probably put potential buyers off, because they don't know the quality of the work thats been done (or the reasons behind it) and the modifications they would have to declare in order to stay legal...

I think you are making a couple of minor changes, at major expense and will be stuck with the car for a very long time.

But ultimately, its your money and your car, so do what makes you happy.

Don't forget to "facelift" the side mirrors and the rear lights. :)

An expert will notice that immediately.

yes, but it's a seperate part (in fact 2 I believe)- if you order a bumper as a part the grille won't come with it.

Of course if you can get an undamaged complete front end from a scrappy then you are correct.

all you need to replace is bumper of course, grill, headlamps and the mounting that goes under the headlamp that hold the bumper thats all. no need to change the hood. here is an avensis 05 transformed to facelift version.

Thanks Thermal,

I now know the difference between the pre & post face lift car. The other comments about insurance and money spent are valid too.

Yaseena, what you need to do is to take photos at the start, during and end of the build, to document the whole process for future reference to the forum, and any customer when you come to sell - If you do mod the car.

That way you will give confidence to the buyer, proving it was not involved in a crash.

Do you want to have BMW front?

Hi Sam,

I know you were joking and a little off topic here but I have seen some great photos from Japan of T25 Avensis cars modified to look like a BMW from the front, I will try to find the web site ;).

Pete.

Hello All,

Just my 2 pence about shifting from the older model to the newer model bumper. A Taxi I see in a cab stand near me had this done ;the bonnet has a little extra gap from the bumper and that is awkward, I would think that it looks better with the original bumper and no gaps. I thought that the bumper was fitted back after falling off, but the side mirrors not having the led lights made me sure it was a facelift attempt.
