Had My Car One Day And Now Back In Garage!

Oh dear, I had my 57 plate Aygo Blue delivered on Friday- it was picked up on Monday as I wasn't happy with the clutch biting point being too high. They rang yesterday and said it needed to be stripped down as they weren't sure what was going on.

Will I have to pay for this work? It is through a main dealer as I bought it through them.

I am very worried now as I am wondering what else may be wrong with the car.

Any advice would be gratefully be received.

Should have a warranty with it to cover this problem.

did you not notice this defect when you had the road test before purchasing the car.

The clutch is fairly high on the Aygo. It depends if you have a new or old model clutch.

How many miles has it done?

And do not pay more than £150 for a clutch job.

In truth I didn't notice and it was only when I read about the clutches going on the Aygo that I picked up on it. So far the dealer has been more than accommodating - I even have the sales rep's company car to drive - but I'm just panicking I've bought a lemon lol x

NO you will NOT have to pay anything and if anybody suggests anything otherwise, a quick mention of the sale of goods act and your car "not conforming to contract" should do the trick ;)

Hi.

Cynic here......

Don't worry about it......it works like this......

Brother-in-law's experience.

My Brother-in-law buys a car from a garage.

The clutch slips slightly on the test drive.

"We'll sort that out for you Sir!"

Buys car, it comes with an insurance backed, 3 months warranty.

Clutch slips on way home.

Takes car back.

Garage fits new clutch & is paid to do so (Thus: Profit) by the insurance company.

Brother-in-law happy, garage happy.

If the garage had sorted it out first, they would have had to pay for a clutch

and then had to take time to fit it.

So......They probably knew it needed doing but sold it to you FIRST so

they can be reimbursed and not lose money on your car.

Everybody happy. (Except insurance company). Don't worry, I'm sure they will claw their money back!

Not a chance.........

Insurance company would never pay for anything if a car went out Friday and came back Monday, regardless of cost

Customer gets 3 month warranty, in reality, for the dealer, its like a 2 month warranty because they rarely pay for anything inside the first month, they will always say it must have been like that before it went out

As a main dealer, they will be aware of their LEGAL responsibility and will put it right without a hitch, it's only when it comes to Fred in the shed garages they try to wriggle out of it

Brother-in law's car went out Saturday a.m. Was returned Saturday a.m.

Collected Tuesday a.m. with new clutch.

Not main dealer (VW Passat TDI 130bhp) but not "Fred the shed"

Only replaced driven plate, not dual-mass flywheel.

Clutch & fitting was £270.00

Didn't make all this up, honest!

Ian.

EDIT: Anyway, it sounds like Beccywecs' car is getting sorted. Happy Aygo owners are what we want.

Not saying you are making it up Ian, all I'm saying is they would not be able to make a claim after such a short period, especially on something that would obviously been in that condition (worn clutch) when it left the dealer.

Perhaps they stood to the cost themselves then.

All's well that ends well.

As I said, hope Beccy's car comes out all happy and smiling like an Aygo should!

Yes that would have been the outcome, the sales dept would have to stand the cost

Hi

They are £536 each new, if you take them to a Denso dealer you can get them refurbed, but they are still expensive and need to be programmed in to your vehicle

Regards

John

Ooops, that should have been a reply to a PM, how the 'eck did that happen?

could it be that the clutch is just different to what you were used to driving? I drive different cars at work, and they all are different, sometimes between the same model, there are variations? Just a thought?

Thanks for all the replies- garage phoned yesterday and said they agreed there was something wrong and that they would need to strip it down. I agree all cars are different ( I love my cars and have had a few sporty numbers so used to different clutches) but the one on the Aygo felt ridiculously high - in fact I got calf ache after 10 mins of driving. Just hoping it will be ok as I love the Aygo as a fun run around :-)

Beccy,

I wouldn't worry as if they do want to charge they should let you know before they conduct any work. if you only just bought it then the looking at it part will be free at least. The clutch is fairly high on these cars, did u feel it slipping? Apart from mine leaking water in the boot it has been very good on reliability so far :-)
