Which Sump Shall I Drain

Afternoon all, doing an oil change on my L reg Lucida, got the bits but just had a look under the car and i can see 2 sumps. One near the front of the car near the oil filter looks like the one i should be draining but the sump plug is on the side of the sump so me thinks i aint getting all the old oil out of there. Then there is another sump about half way down the car that looks like its connected to the bell housing where the drive shaft comes out although this one has a conventional bottom mounted plug. So my question is, is the engine oil sump the one near the front of the car with the plug on the drivers side and if so why the %$( isnt the plug at the bottom of the sump. your help appreciated as always
