1999 Toyota Avensis Estate Remote Locking Not Working.

Hi there,

Been having a problem since taking my steering column out to regrease the bottom splines...

I also took out the instrument cluster to change some burnt out bulbs.

Since then, the RCL doesn't work, works fine by putting the key in the door and the interior drivers door control locks and unlocks all the doors, including the boot.

The interior light works etc, etc.

I've tried the reprogram procedure from Autodata... and still nothing.

I have two black remote keys and one non remote grey key.

I've checked the wiring around the steering wheel column etc, nothing is pulled out, nicked or stressed.

One thing I'm unsure of if the plastic sensor for the key in ignition works, but i've tried the programming procedure by bridging the pins in this sensor anyway.

Any help appreciated.

No help, I'm afraid but I have the same problem and would like to follow this thread.

Right. The first test is to swap the 7.5 amp fuse marked "Dome" in the engine compartment.

With the T22 Avensis the fuse metal properties decay, so the fuse acts like it is blown, but has not!

This was the first fault that happened to my old Mk1 a few years back. It only affects the central locking and nothing else. I just replaced it and all was back to normal.

Failing that, check the internal fuse box behind the drivers knee storage box for a 30 amp fuse. The fuse position label is on the back of the storage box, when you remove it.

Start simple before going to complicated things like syncing or programming the keys.

There is a simple key sync procedure that is covered by the owners handbook.
