D4D Post Egr Clean Fuel Economy Drop

Hello,

I've recently had trauma with my 2003 Avensis T3X. First the engine light came on, the fault code pointed to the EGR valve, so I took that off and cleaned it. All was well, then the light came back on. The workshop manual pointed me to the intake shutter valve, so I bought a brand new one from Toyota and set about replacing it. During the replacement I noticed that he wires on the plug to the intake shutter were damaged and one had broke. So i repaired the wire and the car has run lovely since, no more black smoke when I boot it and it generally drives fine. However my mpg has dropped from a fairly consistent 53mpg to 45mpg. First I thought it was because I'd had the ecu disconnected over night whilst dismantling the engine - i thought I it would settle down after a few tanks of fuel but no change.

The car is due a service, but it seems odd that its dropped suddenly after parts replacement.

Any one experienced anything similar?

Cheers

Lee

I would also like to know the answer of it.

I bought used MK2 Avensis, and without checking the MPG, I cleaned EGR staright away. The reason to do was ocassional non-responsiveness of the car. Plenty of helpful people here suggested to clean egr valve which I did. The problem setteled but I am not sure if I am getting the right MPG (as I never noticed/ considered it before cleaning egr).

Cheers.
