Hi all sorry if this has been covered in another thread but I couldn't see it anywhere.....

Avensis 1.8vvti manual 2004

Background

I bought the car with a dead engine fitted a 'recon' unit which lasted 3 weeks before the gudgeon pin noise developed, engine was replaced with a 2nd hand unit which was also noisy, now I've Just fitted the third engine (recon) and this time car won't fire except on no 3. I've scanned it with launch no faults stored, crank sensor been changed, wiring is ok I've even stripped timing cover to check the timing & the crank pickup is correct. I've even changed the ecu I did get spark on number 4. Coils are working and I have approx 13 volts at each coil connector I am now totally fed up and exhausted and would be eternally grateful if someone could put me out of my misery.... Immo is also working fine and activates and deactivated correctly when key is inserted,,qn immo prob would also allow the car to fire on all four then cutout with 3 secs........help!!!!!!

I can't offer any direct help I'm sorry but I do recall similar thread on this site recently. If you search the previous posts you should be able to find the thread and hopefully the answer to your problem. Best of luck.

hello

check with unit inside the fuel tank -- (level gauge + filter + booster pump) are belong to one unit -- may be a simple filter clogging create such issue. in case the fuel pressure is out of limit the engine can play with you. Besides - check with MASS AIR FLOW sensor and throttle to have correct mixture before ignition. Cheers/Igor

I'm going back to basics here as I know nothing specific about your. Check:

1. You have sparks at all cylinders

2. You have fuel at all cyclinders

3. You have air flow to all cylinders

If you have all 3 it should run, even if it runs rough.
